Fantasy with no substantiated cycling magazine test getting close to that number.

Sept 65 Cycle World article of cb450 road test. 1/4 mile in 15.2 seconds
look on Rivet Restorations website for a copy of the article...can't get this tablet to attach the file or I would attach the pdf scan

Honda was not beneath publishing fantasy numbers the motorcycling press could not reproduce.

Cycle magazine and Cycle World are two different magazines...so, best to use same mag for more consistent test results, as it was generally one or two riders who did the testing, given close dates for that testing...

I believe that you guys are being very harsh on Fenders. You see, while he has no "first hand" experience, he can only rely on what he reads, and he doesn't realise that while the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times that he sees for the CB450 are genuine OEM Honda times, they were achieved using entirely different methodology.

You see, while the CB750's times were conducted on a horizontal plane (drag strip) the 450's testing was conducted vertically. (dropped down a mineshaft)

Problem solved, evening all......... ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Talk about a nice posted quarter mile time.

Grabbing at straws now Fenders, you said on more than one occasion that you weren't talking about quarter mile times, now that its convenient to your argument, even though no stock 450 would come close to that time, you use it.....   This is getting more stupid by the minute and shows a glaring lack of knowledge about the bikes in question...

This time must of been produced during ideal weather and track conditions and the wind at your back ;) Or maybe Honda had enough pull to borrow one of those catapults from the Navy that they use to launch planes off aircraft carriers. Just joking Fender.

I finally figured out how the CB450 can be faster than the 750 (or 550 or even the 650).  This will be hard for you 750 guys to believe, but I have figured out a way that a standard 450 can beat a 750 and it is IMPRESSIVE.

First get anyone on a 750, have them ride at 35mph, then fenders can hop on his IMPRESSIVE 450 and ride at 55mph.  In this instance the 450 will easily beat the 750, hell if he keeps at it long enough he may even be able to overtake it, now wouldn't that be IMPRESSIVE. ;D

Evening Trueblue, impressive use of font options in posting there.

Evening Terry, don't suppose you know the frame number and engine number off those BSA parts I plan to play with?

I must say....I enjoyed Terrys whole "down a mine shaft" scenario.

Hey Marcia and dhall!y

I know how they did it...
They had a typhoon back in 1969 hit Japan and an IMPRESSIVE engineer recognized their drag strip/test track for 1/4 mile times would be aligned with the wind to their backs. So, with a 130 mph wind to their back they were able to get the cb450 pushed down the strip in 13.2 seconds. 2 seconds faster than under normal conditions. Naturally they had to ply the rider with incentives like a week off and copious number of bottles of Soichiro's finest reserves of Saki. The ad didn't run long because when the old man found out his saki was missing and the numbers were enhanced he was furious! He had the ad pulled, never to run again as it was a loss of face.

Want to read an interesting article then download the cb450 super sport article by Cycle magazine back in the day on rivetrestorations.com/docs.html folder...  the 450 was not selling and they were not pulling punches in discussing the bike and its response in American showrooms... They still thought it a marvel of engineering.
