We must lead the world in car/pedestrian, bicycle, motorcycle fatalies! I know we lead the nation in car hit and run fatalies. is it really that hard to just drive anymore? Put the #*&^*&@! cell phones away! If you've had a few drinks, call a freakin cab or a friend. Jeezuz!

Frank,

I arrived on scene within a minute of the accident Sunday morning.
As you'd expect, it was a frantic fight to revive the boy.
His uncle was understandably in shock and panicked.
The driver was not at fault, but wisdom would have suggested driving a lot slower given the cercumstance. Most cyclists participating in the RTCC have very little experience riding in large groups (especially a minor) let alone in wheel to wheel traffic. He apparently scrubbed tires and lost control, falling or swerving into a oncoming SUV. There where many victims of this tragic event.

When I was watching the ride the thought crossed my mind the ugly outcome if a rider or riders were to tangle given the narrow road and density of riders. Sorry to hear of this young man's misfortune. Tucson AZ has a big ride every year for children and family assistance and they re-route traffic on most of the roads the bikers are on when possible to minimize this possibility. Just not feasible sometimes.

When I was in high school I ran distance events and was out running one evening and running with traffic 6 feet off the road from the white line in a curve across from a glass shop. Redneck in a truck passes me within inches of hitting me with his side mirror and turns around to see my face after passing me. He was laughing. People can be Stupid.

Thanks Frank. I'm OK.

On a more positive note.

The 2013 RTCC was an awesome event that raised over 10 million dollars for Cancer Research!
This unfortunate rider lost his life in the pursuit of a better future for all.
Hopefully there will soon be progress in finding a cure or treatment for this heinous disease that will benefit everyone.

Come along for the ride!
