Anyone Have a Water Jet Table?
« on: June 17, 2013, 02:12:01 PM »
I need to have a couple of H-D cylinder base gaskets made from .070-.080 aluminum for the race bike to gain some valve clearance. Are any of you in a position to help? It is the last thing needed to get my motor back together after being in the shop close to a year.
Thanks,
Marc

Crush has access to a laser, don't know if it would have the power to cut thin aluminum...just a thought.

Unfortunately neither of my lasers are powerful enough to get the cut through aluminum. I'd think a water jet or high-powered laser would make very quick work of it. Best of luck. I'd like to hear where you end up.

Frank,

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=122301.0

Just bumped the thread to the top.  It is in the sohc/bikes section rather than the High performance section.  I'm regretting that one... thanks.

Powderman,

What bore do you need these cut to?  I'd be happy to help if I can.  I'm in NJ.  The guy I use just recently made me very accurate custom pieces out of 3/4" solid silicon bronze plate.  I doubt .070" aluminum would present a problem. 8)

I have access to a waterjet at work if you have a DXF of the gasket.

Just had these cut from 3/8" aluminum for my 550.

Let me know if I can help out!

I got Cometic Gaskets to make them for me for $25 for the pair, much cheaper than I thought it would be.
They make the gaskets anyways so all they need is to pull up the program and change the bore to 3.445" and blast them out. They may sponsor them to me, waiting to hear back. Thanks for your help guys. Hopefully this is the last setback on this motor and we can move forward to making noise with it soon. Ohio here I come.

Believe me there is nothing I would rather do than post a video here of this thing making noise. It'll be the first time since this motor was built 36 years ago. Life and responsibilities got in the way of completing it. Now nothing will stop me from finishing. I'm turning 60 in a few weeks and it time to get it finished before it's too late.
