Any negatives to cutting my new spark wires short?
« on: June 21, 2013, 09:46:57 pm »
I'm 95% done with my new custom made wiring harness. I was wondering of there was a reason I shouldn't cut my new plug wires shorter. They are the universal copper core wires from 750supply that are build into the coils, but seperate from the plug. As they stand now their a bit long and loop out.

You may.....at some point want to trim them for new caps or to put caps back on....

Other than down the road...I see no reason why not

I bought a bike and the po cut his down. In a nut shell they are to short and once and awhile the bike dies and I have to put the plug back on at the cool. It slips off. I haven't had time to replace them yet. Don't cut them to short
I've done a lot of things in my life that I'm not proud of...and the things I AM proud of, "are disgusting"

Don't cut them too short but don't let them dangle. Mine were too long and even though I curled them up at the front of the frame one wire dropped down and got burned by the header clamp. All the way throught causing a short. Put in new cables with a better length. You want just enough slack to wiggle them and make
Sure they do not contact the head, headers or clamps. Trim for sure though.

I cut the ends off the wires on both my 750's.(look like still the original wires) Don't think I took off even 1/4" on any of them. Took off just enough to get rid of frazzled ends.

+1 on trimming them....it fixed a misfire on my K5 when I first got it.  Replacing the wires if they are too short is not that hard either.  I did two sets before I switched to Dyna's.  Take a look at the FAQ section on ignition.  There is some great info there.
