newer starter solenoids?
« on: June 18, 2013, 06:12:30 PM »
Need to get a new solenoid. There's a million new ones on ebay under $10 bucks and straight from china. Im skeptical about the quality and how many amps they are designed (or not designed) to handle. Doubt there is any copper inside.  Ayyone been using one? ok?

I'm thinking I might be better off getting a used one from a modern bike. This way you know it has atleast passed some standards. Like this one from a 2011 Ninja...

But why would there be 4 prongs? and a 30A fuse? doesn't the starter pull 100+ amps?

That may be a security, like the neutral circuit and/or the clutch.

I put an ebay one in about 3 weeks ago and have had no problems yet. the prongs are for the neutral and clutch circuits. the prongs were on the other side of the solenoid compared to the stock one so i had to move the wires around inside the plastic clip to make everything work. other than that there were no problems with it and cant complain for like $11 shipped to Canada.
