Quiet-Core or Shorty Mufflers????
« on: June 16, 2013, 02:55:31 PM »
Does anyone own or tried these mufflers? Would the quiet-core give me better performance compared to the shorty?

Bump for Flybox input

He just put a cone on his, not sure I remember the "tone" he went for tho. I am very curious to hear the different sizes/baffling in action

Better?
One is longer w baffling, one is shorter w no baffling.  Glad I got the 18' baffled one. good backpressure so I didn't have to rejet.  Great deep tone, but quiet enough my neighbors don't hate me.  Loud enough above 6000rpm that it sounds like it's unbaffled   :P
My welder had the shorty ready to put on his R100s.  Glad I didn't get that one.  Too open...it's just straight through with some wall screen. I'd probably still be farking around with 40/42 and 125/130's if I went that route.
Check my Sig for my setup. Happy to answer any other questions.
I posted a sound bite in my thread.  Search for 18" quiet core.
Oh yeah....I love it.  Quality product.

Does it sound anything like this?

Cone Engineering 18" Quiet Core

Good work!  Will this work with any 4 into 1 2.5" header?

Lol...um, yeah, it kinda sounds exactly like that  ;D

.....because it IS my bike  ;D  ;)
And yes, it will work on your header as it did mine.
You'll need a heavy duty clamp and a good support bracket.  Don't want all that weight on the studs alone. Got all my stuff from DCC.

Is this the same muffler on the Cycle X setup it looks identical?  I might need to do something with a super loud exhaust I got and this might be the ticket.

No. The cycle x is a 12" shorty w minimal baffling.  It's basically wide open and straight through.
This ones 18" and baffled.

Thanks for the correction.  I will keep an eye out for a cheap header.

Doesn't look quite the same.
The cone engineering/dime city cycles/lossa are all brushed stainless, and has a weld seam at the cone end
Yours is polished and does not have the visible seam.
Did you polish out the weld and have it chromed? Just curious...

Unfinished polish job. I'll do the reverse cone this week.

Ordered direct from cone engineering.

Just wanted it to match the hooker header.

I drilled a 1/2" hole in the baffle. It's seriously quiet.

It's perfect if you are serious about back pressure.

It may PM me  a pic or two.  This is got to be one of the best exhaust threads ever!

the largest ID slip on ConeEng makes is 2.5"
just keep that in mind if you're set on using one when header hunting....

Thanks guys and great pics/vid Flybox1! I'm planning on ditching the mac muffler for the quietcore. Did you get the mounting tab from cone engineering as well?

yes, part # MC-BRKT,  but its not sturdy enough alone to support the whole system over time.
added 90deg bend support to the back side.
