Here's some old woodworking tools of my grandpa's. Rafster should love the planes... they're from Switzerland.

This is a test run. I will post more pics if I can get it working.

Here's a Moore and Wright Micrometer that the Father in Law gave me years ago.
It's still as accurate as anything else available today - Probably better.

And here's a Whitworth thread gauge that he gave me as well - It's a beauty but it doesn't get very much use any more.

And an old set of Stilsons. I've got no idea how old they are and can't see a name on them anywhere. 35 inches long.

I think that I might have to try Daves molasses solution on these ones.

Love that micrometer!!

Here's some more pics of the tools- I really dig the extra details, like the knurling on the knobs and carving on the wood. Things that showed pride in the craftsmanship.

Never knew either of my grandpa's as they were gone when I came along

(although I got named after both of them). As a real youngster, I remember the shed of one of them, where I found a double-barreled flintlock to play with.

Interesting thread, when I get some free time I'll post some of my Grandfather's (born 1898) old tools. I also frequent auctions and will pretty much buy any interesting old tool of good quality...Larry

It is good. As mentioned several times--most of the turn of the century tools were made before mass production with pride and craftsmanship....Larry

Gorgeous plane and neat collection of tools. Calibration check of the micrometer is probably a good thing if you can find a shop to do it. Really cool stuff.

Here's a couple of side-valve spring compressors I have.

This one, by DUCO, was commonly found in the toolkits supplied with 1920's flat-tankers. I believe DUCO had a particular association with Brown Motorcycles...

The larger one below it is by TERRYS. I think it probably dates from the 1950/60s. I don't use either for their intended purpose at present, but the TERRYS one is brilliant for pushing in brake caliper pistons!

The last two pictures are the same tool. It is a side view of the Can Opener's blade.

The Dunlap tool is an adjustable wrench, unfortunately the other two photos I had of it were too high resolution to post. I need to lower the camera resolution and snap a couple more pictures of it.
The dagger is an AG Russell from the 70s, it is mine, not my dad's. The Bombardier wrench I found when "yarding" for a few car parts probably 15 or more years ago. Most likely a snowmobile wrench, given it's make.
Dad had a few interesting tools I ran across while rummaging around this summer and fall. Oddly enough most of dad's tools were SAE with virtually no Metrics. I guess that was fitting given he wasn't much of a handyman.
I ascribe to Red & Green's (PBS television show no longer being produced)... "if women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy..." Not that I'm that bad looking but, I do like to be handy.

Or maybe a tune up kit for a woolly mammoth. Yeah, it's to bad they didn't come embedded in the original mammoth or bison.
