And what is the voltage?   Most homes here are wired for only 120V.

For me, that is one of the most memorable lines from a comedy ever.  I used to work in the electrical dept at Ho Depot,  needless to say the line was frequently used.  I  visualize Keaton with chain saw in hand rambling off the 220/221 line, cracks me up every time...Larry

G'day Ken (and everyone else) it's a 140 amp (max) variable amperage machine, and for my American cousins, our standard single phase wall sockets are all 240V. If I had access to 3 phase power, I could have bought a beautiful 415V Lincoln welder for 40 bucks. Cheers, Terry. ;D

aussie slang is for everyone strynboen!heres an old pipe vice I got today from another bin, this was a deceased estate where they throw out everything the family doesent want,i also got some old rat tail files but just junk all through the bin,the patent on this is 1904 I think,i was told the guy was 91 when he passed,i had to give this area a quick wire wheel over, ill give it the molasses treatment and some paint and probably end up using it from time to time.

That is nice and clean Strynboen, you must regularly polish your helmet.

So I guess guys when I pack in all my fathers and my tools will be worth something, all the old tin snips rivet sets and hammers etc?
I suppose I should look at them and see whats what. Maybe I'll give you people first crack at them, one son in law would just #$%* them or put them in a garage sale the other wouldn't have any use for them and as far as the daughters go their hand wouldn't fit the handles. Any how I wouldn't clean them the patina is important. If I'm 75 and he bought them when he was apprenticing the tools have got to be pushing 100 years old.
Bill the demon.

Yeah it's a shame when an old guy leaps off his mortal coil and his family doesn't respect the things that he enjoyed most Bill. That old BSA mower I bought belonged to the neighbour of the seller, old Ron (the seller's father) told me he remembered when his neighbour bought it new in the 1950's and it was a big deal for him, he used to let Ron use it as long as Ron kept it showroom clean, and when I picked it up it was still so clean you could eat your lunch off it.

I remember back in the 1990's a work colleague showed me a German Iron Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster that she'd pulled out of a "Skip Bin" when her old German neighbour died. His family (who never visited him) descended on his house to clean it out to sell, and dumped all of his meagre possessions in the rubbish. She and her husband (natural scroungers, like most of us here) dived thru the dumpster and found his WW2 medals, an army belt buckle, and all of his family photographs.

I really hope that when I fall off the perch, my kids have more of an interest in my stuff than to just dump it or sell it off. Cheers, Terry. ;D

After working for a coin/ collectables dealer for awhile.     I found that people would bring in  there dearly departed's coin collections etc in knowing absolutely nothing about them and basically giving them away then saying "i knew he/she was wasting their money"..  My advice is sell your stuff and enjoy the money yourself, you know what its worth , ebay has opened up a whole new world for doing this.  IMHO dealers will rip you off blind if they can...

Actually that's probably what I'll do Ken, my dad wanted to do the same thing but his dementia fcuked him up and I don't have time to do it for him now. No biggie, I'll distribute his stuff to those who want it and sell the rest slowly, mum's not going anywhere for awhile (she turns 86 on Thursday but runs around like a 60 year old) so there's plenty of time to thin it down. ;D
