750 brake shoe options
« on: February 15, 2013, 08:49:40 PM »
Looking into getting new brake shoes. And i thought i'd save the time for anyone else looking into it....

Here's our options for the 750k...

EBC model 320
From manufacturer:
Kevlar. Strong, predictable brake response and fingertip control
(180x38)

Vesrah model VB-129
From manufacturer:
High friction, 100% non-asbestos material for quicker stops
Brake pads are organic/carbon fiber unless noted in chart
(178.5 x 39)

Emgo model 93-39117
From manufacturer:
Sintered pad, standard shoe

Emgo model 93-39167
From manufacturer:
Full metal pad, grooved shoe

DP model DP9121
From manufacturer:
Sintered metal dust-free compound design gives superior performance for consistent, hard stops and fade-free performance
Brake pads and shoes have a quick break-in period so you get maximum performance fast
Sintered metal compounds will outlast more organic or KevlaR&Reg; pads, and are safe for all OEM rotors

Honda model 43120-393-006

Honda model 06430-393-405 (newer part number)

Do you have anything to say about any of these models? braking power? installation/fit? squeaks?

Did you turn the drum surface? sand it? left it alone?

ive had good front pads from any manufacturer,,the rear shoes not so,one set had to be filed slightly as they were too thick by a small amount to get the split pin into,no biggie,,then i find they may aswell have been made from ice for all the stopping friction they had,i couldnt lock the rear wheel if i tried,,used honda rears and they went straight on and actually work like youd expect.

I've had good luck with the vesrahs, on my 350 and 750 drums.  Once centered properly, no squeal, and no leading edge grinding required.

I have EBC 320 on my 750. They don't squeal and they work well. I sanded with like 220 grit the inner surface to clean it up and knock off any glaze

One problem is they are slightly oversized tho. You have to shape the shoes to the drum a little bit to get them in. Initially the rear brake will be tight til they burn up a little. I put mine in first gear on the centerstand and let it turn the wheel away and away. Then popped it off and cleaned out excess dust

Today on their website Silver only lists aftermarket brake shoes for the 550. Could be they've exhausted their supply of OEM shoes. Same for Bike Bandit.

Dave, I did search by part number. It comes back as discontinued and no longer in stock or available. It may be that from now on aftermarket shoes will be the only alternative.

oh,ok.if your shoes backings are still good you might find an old school brake service place that could reline them with good material?

43120-393-006 still available for my K3 when I checked Silver's US site.
I bought two pairs about 2 or so years ago when I planned on changing the rear tire out with the bearings.
Probably hard to beat OEM as far as wear goes if they wear the same as front pads.

I have EBC 320 on my 750.

Put some EBC's on my K3  2 season's ago and when these brakes get warm very very easy to lock up the wheel...backed off the adjuster a bit and have a bit better feel for the rear wheel brake now.
