'72 Honda CB500 Paint specs.
« on: June 19, 2013, 09:18:39 PM »
I am in the middle of restoring a 1972 CB500 Four. The tanks and side covers are at my painters right now and he is about to add the black center section and the pin stripping on. I am going with a sunrise flake orange. Any way what I am looking for is the specs of the stripes and the measurement of the center section. I don't have a bike near me to compair it too. I have looked on the net and through the forums with no luck thus far.
Any help would be appreciated.
Hoping to get the tanks done and to me by sunday :D

My painter has had the tank painted for about a week and sanded for a couple of days. He is just waiting for me to get him the specs. for a more exact paint job. The tank I have had been painted several before so there was nothing left of the original paint.

Don't know how original you intend to go with your pain(t) job, but the white pinstripes are actually decals that were applied to cover the seam between the black and the tank colour.   Here's an expensive solution:

i didnt paint that nic,i cant paint but a fence, even thatll look shabby, that paint job is a few years old now and still looks good, the stripe position isnt exactly factory but if your not into concours its good,,when i see a factory one now they look wrong, the black panel is too small, mines a bit longer,we just went with 2mm top stripe, then 2mm between the next one mm stripe.

Get the decal.  Got mine here: http://knkcycles.com/honda-cb500.htm

Then clearcoat over the decal.  Looks great.  If you're old chrome trims are in bad shape, just get the roll of split chrome molding from Autoparts store and follow it around the whole thing.
