Biker Build off is here Aug 18th the deadline for completion.
« on: August 04, 2006, 02:06:50 PM »
We started on July 24

Ok guys here it is, the Home Wrecker build off. We are doing this for the “Wings and Wheels blues festival show on Aug 18th.  I know we have a long ways to go but I am doing 15 hour shifts with this monster. The first picture is the starting platform. As you can see started I with very little of a bike. #$%*, most of the top end was missing. This bike is being built with 95% junk parts from the shop.

This is being posted in segments as my web site is getting nailed non stop and I hate overage fees for images.

This project was inspired by the Enola Gay of WWII and the Little Boy bomb that devastated Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. While the bombing was a tragedy in the worst way we believe this bike exemplifies the art work of the era.

TEXT FOR THE SHOW:

This is a project that started for Anubis Cycle of Reedsburg on July 24 with the sole intent of showing at the Reedsburg 2006 Wings and Wheels Blues Festival. On July 24 when we started the bike was a wreck as you can see in the photos. Through the use of hundreds of in house parts and over 300 hours of labor you have the bike you see here today. All of the work you see on this bike was done by Thomas Neubauer at Anubis Cycle LLC of Reedsburg, WI located at 2019 East Main Street in Reedsburg, WI.

The paint is special as it is 13 coats of hand rubbed lacquer. 6 of which are color. Each and every coat was hand rubbed and color sanded to a mirror finish then scuffed again to accept each new coat of paint. The artwork on the tank is also one off and was designed and drawn by Thomas Neubauer of Anubis Cycle and printed by Auto Trim of Lake Delton. This is a vinyl appliqué that is beneath 3 coats of clear.

1.   One-Off Hand laid fiberglass seat
2.   Custom Gauge faces
3.   13 coats of hand rubbed lacquer 6 color and 7 clear.
4.   Clubman Bars
5.   Polished Hand controls and dash
6.   Motor is custom build 605 cc Race motor with many high performance parts that are no longer available and has been bored out and then rebuilt by Anubis Cycle LLC of Reedsburg, WI. This motor puts out nearly twice the stock 48.00 HP (35.0 kW)) @ 9000 RPM at 90.00 HP @ 9000 RPM.
7.   Custom Paint scheme on motor
8.   High Temp Wrapped one off custom made exhaust
9.   Custom one off rear set controls

This will be red rims, black spokes, polished hubs

Motor will be red and black sort of like 605 racer motor in the background

BTW... the pin up girl...................... That is  stolen image right now but the final will look quite a bit like it, God knows I cant afford to have the guy do one personally.

Did you use a rattle can for the rim? If so what kind?  It looks great.  Are you painting the spoke black or did you order some already black?

OK the rims are rattle can as well as all this bike. The spokes are powder coated. The tank was Plasti-kote Classic Lacquer and about 3 hours of polishing and buffing as well as sanding in between coats. The rims are nothing at this point (as far as shine), they have yet to be polished and clear coated. As a matter of fact they are scuffed and wet sanded with 320 right now to make sure I get the finish I need. They will be finalized with 1500 then clear coated and polished out with a 3" buffer. The rims were done with Rust-oleum Professional High Performance Enamel (red) which will be oven baked for about 15 min at 200 degrees.

Getting this bike to look good will be easy. The artist just got back to me and basically turned my pin up to a bale 'o hay southern hillbilly farm slut.  :o NO NO NO... I am looking for WWII.

The hard part will be keeping the ducks in a row. As you can see the new digs are STILL NOT done. The guy is taking forever to put up my walls.

Wait till you see the side covers! You will just freak out. Was a full day today. WIll post pics tommorrow of the finished side covers. Wicked wet right now. Shines like glass.

The trick is the properties of lacquer. Sand it with 320 wet between coats. Lay them heavy. Then the same with the clear coats. Comes out looking like glass when you finsh it out with Wizard polish. Beats that mothers stuff ;)

Wow... looking very cool. Love the rims. I was trying to imagine what that would look like for my bike, and you did it! Kick ass.

That rim looks nice...  Did you have to media blast it or sand down all the chrome to get good adheision?  I'm afraid that the guy who mounts my tires would scratch the sh*t out of them.  Where did you learn about baking the paint (15 min @ 200F?)  I was thinking about having mine powdercoated. but if I could do it at home w/ spraycans, like a flat black (bbq paint maybe?) ... hrmmmm.  any additional info on this would be appreciated.   sweet ride,  Keep up the goodwork and  good luck at the show!

I second the thumbs up on the black motor. That fairing finishes off the look very nicely. I've been contemplating stripping the paint and polishing tree too. howmany hours would you say it took?... Did you use the same blasting media on the paint on the tree that you did to get chrome off the rims?

Thats going to be a real sick ride when you're finished w/ it!

To get the paint off you use Aircraft stripper. And then rough in with a 3" grinder (??grit) and polish it out.
