AMA Vintage Days in Ohio- July 2013
« on: June 06, 2013, 08:55:02 AM »

 Hi all,

I'm a new member here on this forum but "well traveled" in vintage bike circles and have ridden out to this event twice and am planning on riding out again this year. The first time I went I knew nobody, but made lots of new friends. Last year, I met up with a bunch of guys from the Kaw triples boards and some new friends from the Yam turbo boards (I had recently restored my Yam turbo over Christmas vacation). We had a party of nearly 30 guys(including our English contingent) on Saturday night at the campground. This year, I'm hoping to add yet more friends from this board!

You can google "AMA Vintage Days" and get the info but it's being held 7/19-7/21 this year. I can't express to the guys that haven't gone yet how great an event this really is. If you have gone, please chime in to tell the new guys how much fun it is. There is great vintage racing (we move around the track to get the best vantage points) in all classes, including the dirt bikes, there is the countries biggest swap meet with hundreds of vendors and most of the guys are as nice as your best friend. When I was walking around the 1st year I went, I was invited several times to come behind the tables and sit for a bit and share a beer or ice water and BS with the guys. They also have on-site camping which is what I do and it's nice not to have to worry about your stuff while you're away from your site. They also have new bike demo rides, a big AMA tent with bikes and displays from the AMA museum that's located about 30 miles away. They really put together a 1st class event that's worth attending. There's nothing like spending 3 days with other guys that like vintage machines as much as you do.

I'm going to ride my Vstrom out again this year and just completed rebuilding the forks and installing a nice set of tapered head bearings to smooth out the ride. For me, it's about an 1100 mile round trip and I usually roll out around midnight but was held up till 3am last year because of torrential downpours. Looking back, I should have left on time since I caught up with the rain within 20 miles and it ended up staying on top of me till I went around Pittsburgh. <LOL>.

Anyway, it's a great time and I was wondering if anyone else from here is going?

I'm on the fence currently. My brother in law goes every year and has a booth for the swap meet.

I'll report back when the decision has been made. Hoping that if I go I can tow my bike along with and cruise some ohio roads.
You CAN do great things...with enough beer.

Just searched to see if anyone else was talking about Vintage days for this year....Just got my swap meet packet in the mail, Myself and a few friends will be in spot D267, its a corner spot (man, got lucky!) right behind the demo ride area.

I've already separated a ton of parts into totes, I'm at 7 totes already LOL. Gonna have numerous odds-n-ends from some CB500/550/650's I've parted, some Yamaha XS650 and XS750 parts, and a really nice cafe'd cb550 complete bike for sale with us. I'm bringing a complete cb550 engine that needs refreshed (runs, but massive blow-by, I have new rings included, just needs gasket set and the elbow grease) and a cb650 engine that came from a running 1979 bike.
