Colleda 250TA Brake Parts Needed
« on: August 07, 2013, 06:36:32 PM »
A huge problem in restoring rare models is finding parts. This is so with my Colledas of which I have 3 - one complete and original and two I'm restoring. The biggest PIA at the moment is finding replacement cup and seal for the front and rear hydraulic brake wheel cylinders. Yes, that's right, hydraulic linked brakes, front/rear, operated via the foot brake. There is also a normal,  cable operated, SLS front "emergency" brake.
I have tried all the usual brake suppliers/wholesalers in the state (New South Wales). I now need to look further afield. The wheel cylinders are smaller than just about all automotive types.
The front bore size is 14mm and the rear 18mm.
Can anyone suggest a US source I could try?
BTW the rear brake  set up is same as on T10 rear hydraulic models.

The 14mm cups look very similar to a 14mm cup used on my FT500 rear MC? Not sure that's any help...

Thanks Scottly, its a possibility. I checked the FT500 parts list and it is only available in a kit. Any chance of a pic of an old one if you have one about? Or would you recognize it if I posted a close up of an old one I have?

G'day Krusty

All I could suggest for the cups is to go a 9/16" (14.27mm) flat cup and 11/16" (17.46mm) which should be an off the shelf part at most automotive brake places.
If you take the w/cyl bodies along and see what the wall tension is like with those size cups.

Alternatively, you could get the bodies sleeved in stainless to a conventional size and machine the 18mm pistons back to suit the 17.46mm bore and either make up new pistons to suit the 14.27mm bore or machine up a piston sleeve to step the existing pistons up to size.

If I was you
I'd be worried about me.

This is the best pic I have of the cup; it is to the right of the spring at the lower left corner.

Thanks Mick. I took the cylinders to First Choice Brake & Clutch (wholesalers) at Cardiff and they sent them to a bloke in Lismore who does special order resleeves, mods etc. They said he was an old bloke who's been around a while but he came up with zilch.
I'm really hoping some NOS will turn up somewhere. I scored a complete NOS master cylinder from Paul Miller Suzuki, a while back, which helped that end of things, it set me back $300 but geeze where can one find stuff like that nowadays, you have to grab it when you see it.
About 15 or more years ago a bloke at a local Stopmaster found some cups and dust seals but now he can't remember what they were for.
If nothing turns up by the time I start assembling these bikes (still have to paint stuff and rebuild the motors) I may just install the system anyways and leave it dry (preserved). At least they will still have a front, cable operated, anchor.

Had me going there for a minute Scottly. That brake set up looked just like a kit I have for my 750F2 rear. I went and measured it up and its 16mm. Bugger. I noticed that the 750 cup has no dimple to locate the spring. Could this be a problem? I mean, could the cups twist out of position. Do you, or anyone else, know if Honda supplied these singly?

Krusty

The Honda 750 Master Cyl Primary Cup is 14mm.

It's a fluted cup but would get your out of trouble I think.
Whether it has a dimple or not shouldn't worry you at all.

I've never heard of an 18mm cup before.
They go from 11/16" (17.46mm) to 3/4" (19.05mm)
Maybe on the off chance, give these fellas a try.
