Fork difference K7 vs. older models?
« on: June 20, 2013, 02:04:20 PM »
Hi there!

I'm trying to get the fork from my K7 to look like one of the older models. I've bought fork ears from a K2, a pair of fork boots for K0-K6, and now I'd like to know if there's anything else that I need to make the changes.

I've read this topic here: http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=79203.0 and I know now I also need parts #19 and #17 from that schematic.

Question 1: Is there anything else that I need to make the change?

Question 2: When I put the fork boots next to the exposed part of my fork tubes it looks like even with the new parts they will be compressed quite a bit. I also saw this on a couple of pictures where people added them on their K7. Does the K7 have shorter tubes than the older versions or is anything else different?

Question 3: The guy that sold me the fork ears, I also bought a couple other things from him, including the K2 fork tubes and the K2 fork cases (part #8). Is there any difference if I would use any of them instead of my K7 tubes and cases for the mod?

Thanks a lot for your help! :)

K7 lowers, or "cases", are longer than the earlier Ks, but the overall length of the assembly is the same. The K2 tubes will fit into the K7 triples, but the K7 brake won't bolt to the K2 lower.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

Thanks BP and Scottly, I have now the K2 fork lowers, K2 fork tubes, fork boots and also a K2 disc brake, but it seems that all the other small parts that I still need (fork arm, all the seals etc. will take some time to get for a reasonable price so I'll postpone this endeavor till the winter. Will soon post a thread on all the stuff I did to my K7 so far. :)
