CB550 Race Piston Kit?
« on: June 27, 2013, 11:29:30 PM »
I've noticed quite a few people have installed the dynoman piston kits, and it seems to mostly be the kit that comes with 358a or 358b cam. i was just wondering if anyone has had any experiences with the "stage 3" race piston kit. I'm very interested in giving my 550 some extra power.

Thanks!

how much compression does the stage 3 have and where do you use the bike?

wouldn't want to run more than 11:1 on a street bike, for racing 12:1 or even more is fine though (assuming you know how to set it up in terms of squsih and valve to piston clearance)

the stage 3 is 11:1 i believe. i ride on the street. a friend of mine and i like to ride around some twisty back roads. i honestly don't know much about hot rodding motors but i'm trying to learn. i've been reading about the cb650 head/550 swap with the 750 pistons. there's just a lot to take in.

Dynoman sells three different 592cc (61mm) piton kits for the 550.
Two of the options run 10.5:1 CR and the Race kit is 11.5:1 CR.
The most common kit is the DP592/61s also packaged with the stage II engine kit.
Several members are using this piston with good results. I will be soon to.

There is also a special piston for 550's running the 650 head. Might be the way to go if you can find a nice header.

Thanks for the replies! I'm heavily considering the DP592/61s. I guess i was just curious if the increased compression from the race kit is worth the extra $$.
