CB 500 vs CB 550 case front fork
« on: June 28, 2013, 06:21:53 AM »
Except for the part number, can anyone tell me what the difference is between the CB 500 and CB 550 case front fork? They do look the same outside, but is it different inside regarding the pipe, front fork? Thus not interchangeable?

The damper internals very a lot along with some of the outer dimensions although the fender and caliper brackets will transfer, also the 550 has the bracketry for a second caliper.

Due to the differences it is better to swop complete legs, as pairs, and these will slide straight in.

Having said all that, here in UK i did many years ago just change the one slider on a 500 for a 550 one so i could fit twin discs and never had a problem that i knew about!!!

From another member I found out the top cap bolts are different. The 500 has a long damper rod that screws into the bottom of the fork cap. The 550 just has the spring rest in the bottom of the cap.

There's quite some variation. Check the Parts Lists and sites like http://www.motogrid.com/pages/OemParts?aribrand=HOM.

Hm, that is a few differences, think I will go for the original cases on the project I am working on. I have access to nos cb 500 cases but l work on a cb 550. Thanks for all replies, guys.
