change the ignition switch on CB750A
« on: June 30, 2013, 12:52:33 PM »
The original ignition switch does not have a key, so I have a replacement switch for it, but the new switch has only 4 wires and I don't know how to do the change. I have added the picture of new switch. if anybody knows how to fix it please let me know.

The four-wire switches do not have the same functions as does a five-wire switch.  You'd lose the park position, the ability to lock the steering, and some of the older switches have a completely different (electrically) Position 2.

Can it be made to work?  Yes.

But why?  Is there a reason you didn't just buy the right switch (other than it costs about twice as much ($32 at cb750supply))?

The following switches are common to the 1977 750A:

1977 CB550F
1977, 1978 CB550K
1977, 1978 CB750A
1977, 1978 CB750F
1977, 1978, 1979 CB750K
1979 CB650

The one you have won't fit or mount up the same as the original, either.

1978 CB750A (upgrading very, very slowly)

Past bikes - Honda: SL350, CX650C, CB900C, CB1000C, CM450A; Kawasaki: several 1972 750 H2's; Suzuki: TC90J.

Bikes I want: CX650ED, a mid-sized japanese V-twin with ABS.
