Wiring issues on 750K5
« on: July 02, 2013, 06:29:49 AM »
Hi all - This is my first post.  I'm working on a CB750K5 that's in pretty good shape overall.  I've worked on a couple other CB's over the last couple of years, but not a CB750.  Looking forward to it.

That said, I'm just digging into the bike and one of the first issues is the general wiring.

Issue 1:  There is no draw on the two wires connected into the 7amp fuse.  These wires are meant for powering the headlights.  I discovered an extra black female wire in the headlight can and couldn't find any thing that it would be used for, according to the wiring diagrams.  It's hot so I'm using it for the headlights.  I've verified the dead wires at both ends, including the fusebox connector.  Charge on the 15amp is good.  Charge on the 5amp works when the ignition key is turned to "nighttime or park."  whichever one that is.  Nothing ever on 7amp.

My question is - is it worth it to tear open the wire harness to find the issue with the wires and correct over this?  Or is the black 15amp connection just a gift from a previous owner that I should take and not worry about?

Issue 2:  Neutral switch isn't working.  I haven't isolated the cause yet but if I'm able to isolate the wire itself, would replacing this wire be a complicated matter?  Wouldn't I have to splice into the alternator's harness to correct?

Issue 3:  The horn switch isn't picking up the ground circuit from the handle bars.  I've got it working if I take a grounded wire and touch the switch itself.  Does this indicate corrosion within the switch?  Any recommendations for how the negative charge flows through the left hand switch generally?  Then maybe I can isolate the areas I need to clean up.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
