Cylinder head ?'s
« on: July 03, 2013, 10:00:28 PM »
Not sure where exactly to post this im new here. Anys i have a 77 cb750k, and i disassembled the engine for a rebuild. well now im at the point of cleaning everything to get ready for paint then reassembly. i pressure washed my head today, afterwards i noticed in cylinder 1 combustion chanmber it looks like something was bouncing around in there and chewed it up pretty good. just wondering if you can tell by the pictures im going to post if it is something i could repair or if the head looks junk? also noticed a divet in the valve cover surface, im sure that could just be welded up and ground flat. anyways here are the pictures, the hole on the valvecover side is next to the corner bolt hole.

I would suggest a talk with Mrieck, he is the big cylinder head guy

The divot for the valve cover is odd, did you have the head sent out or did you do it yourself? It is pretty big in size, not just a tool mar

As for the chamber marks as long as sealing surfaces and the valve seats aren't chewed up it is "ok". "Ok" tho is a matter of opinion and everybody's is different. I would polish down any raised surfaces to not have hot spots and then sit the valves in place and test them with alcohol to see if they seal.
