73 cb 500 coil wires

I clipped my plug wires back a bit to get fresh end cause my plug boots just pulled off but I still cant get them to thread on tite they still pull off but I am getting fire and bike runs? any ideas

Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).
