clutch doesn't disengage
« on: July 05, 2013, 10:09:53 PM »
I just got and old 1971 cb750 half cafed-out, I got it to start thanks to hondaman trick about bridging the red plug to eliminated the starter safety unit. Now i have the problem of the chain spinning when tranny is supposed to be on neutral. light on neutral doesn't come on either. little help will be appreciated from newbie. pics to follow...

if it's just spinning slowly, i think most motorcycles do that while in neutral with the rear tire in the air. the oil in the clutch acts kinda like a torque convertor and the non spinning discs get dragged along by the spinning ones by the viscosity of the oil. shut the engine down and spin the rear tire. if it spins freely without turning the engine over, it's in neutral, or at least the clutch is disengaged. might just be a bad neutral switch or the bulb. wait for others to chime in, i'm not as smart as most of the guys on here.
