What a great forum!!
new from Alpharetta Georgia. Hopefully I will pick up a 1978 CB550F next week. 11k miles.
probably will need a carb clean and setup, front brake not working. I hope this is not the tip of the ice berg. bike is cosmetically excellent condition. but I'm starting with $750 for the bike so I have good chace of not going under water from the start. knock on wood.

Welcome PF.  550F's are great bikes, $750 doesn't sound outrageous for the bike you describe.
Carb cleaning and brake work are normal issues of a bike that's been sitting.
You'll also need to give it a full tune up, fluid change and tires.
Good luck...
