OK, anybody in San Diego?

I'm going to stew on this. 200 in fuel. 200 for an overnight stay. Equals forget about it. It's not like it's a 79 CBX.  ;D

Anybody notice the build code of 319 on the muffler? 1971. Bike is a 1972 by frame and engine. Nothing unusal here.

Maybe they procured or produced extra exhausts and they were left over.  Is it a low serial number in 72 bike build for frame and motor, produced in late 1971?  Given the growing value of the 450 and condition it sounds like a good deal if you can get the seller to sell it.
Could camp in Carlsbad...or further up the coast if you want to rough it with an air mattress and tent.  I have stayed in the Motel 6 in Carlsbad and it is a nice place with clean rooms and comfortable beds, not too expensive. It is right off 5 if I recall correctly.  Greek place in Carlsbad is very good and they have belly dancers at least one night a week. They have a great pastry shop and coffee house thats a block off the beach. They do short order with limited menu and food is good and coffee is as well. Mini vacation trip to the beach, enjoy the surf and sand and cool temps.
I know a surfer friend, Rubio, who is into RC slope flying (gliders) and surfing (of course) who lives in San Juan Capistrano. He has a late 60s Econoline van... shall I ask Rubio recommendations for camping sites near him?

I basically said if you will flex a little more I'll get it. If not, keep it.

After all, who is the seller? Me or him?

No biggie here either way.

Motel 6 @ Carlsbad Downtown location is $69.99 and tax Tuesday night this week or next, Tuesday night would be off peak std rate of 69.99.
located at Carlsbad Village Drive and I5. It is a nice walk to the beach from there. Coffee shop I mentioned, Cafe Elysa, has lots of outdoor seating and is on Carlsbad Boulvevard, hang a left when you reach it...the Greek place, The Armenian Cafe, is on that same street a stones throw away. If you look on a street map, the coffee shop is on the triangular block off of Carlsbad Boulevard south of Carlsbad Village Drive.
The Chinese restaurant, Mystic Dragon, on Grand near Roosevelt is good.  The French Pastry shop across the street from the Motel6 is good. The seafood/cafe restaurant on NW corner of intersection of  Carlsbad Boulevard and Carlsbad Village Drive is also good.

Roadtrip...enjoy the beach late evening/night or very early morning. Lots of people running and cycling and walking along the beach sidewalk...

It's not bad really. The article talks about the County as a whole and not necessarily a town. Pretty shocking stuff however.

Appreciate the offer. Will see. If he wants to work a little on his end fine. If not keep it.

You would think someone could meet me, exchange monies then strap and go. No more than an hour at most.

I see those for sale all the time but have no interest. It's a Toy...
[/quote
Maybe in the year 2013 they might be seen as toys. But back in the day and long before ATV's came on the market these CT90's were used by many outdoors men and hunters. Not the best looking bike for sure but the step-thru frame made it easy getting on and off. Luggage rack on back and a automatic 8 speed trans. 4 speeds for street and flip a lever if I remember and 4 trail gears for the woods. In the lowest gear if you could manage to hang on to it it would take you up the side of a wall. A toy, I don't think so ;)
Here a pic I found ( mid 60's more than likely) of a hunter on his early model CT90. Pic is not the best, but and you can see the rifle on front of the bike and what seems to be a large deer he just killed strapped to the bike he's bringing out of the woods. Also look close and you can see the dual rear sprocket set up from very large to small.

Toytuff, the problem with California bikes is they will often sell for very high prices because it is California and registering a vehicle from another state is sometimes impossible there. So, he has either really no desire to sell or knows it should bring close to his asking price.
Maybe another offer of a little more $ in 3 days will tell him you are interested.
Going to be in 90s here with 60-80% humidity this week, really nasty weather for here...

Price has been negotiated. Matter of time frames. "This week only" doesn't work. Have other obligations in the mix.

I would rather do it in one day. After 1730 hrs. doesn't work. Would drive all night to get home. Younger days no problem. I worked nights for 20 years most into mornings and afternoons. Not happening now.

Like I said, he can keep it. Already looking at something else in Phoenix. I'll be there a week from today.

ToyTuff,

ebay 141010292829

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/141010292829

Went for more than the typical $4-4500 the Dream 50 goes for...
Would be a fun bike to commute to work on a twisty road with no stop signs...

Aw, that will polish right up, it will be right as rain in no time...

Free would be a good price for it.
Tank might be in good shape on the inside and with desert conditions the rust is typically not deeply embedded.  So, stripping the frame and repainting or powdercoating... Complete motor tear down and rebuild, clean and paint...  Appears to be a decent rebuildable candidate if you want to put the work into it.
A year from now you might have a looker...
What does the 500cc Kawasaki of that vintage go for when restored?

You've not had a heavy project bike lately, they have been in pretty good shape. This would be one you would be bringing back from the dead.  Would be interesting getting it running and leaving the paint like that. It would discourage theft, unless they go for $$$$. In AZ with it being dry it would not likely deteriorate much further for the painted pieces, naturally you would need a seat to make it tolerable for riding.
Personally the rusted patina isn't the look I go for but some like it.

Did I get your heart rate up?  It is 94-95 here and 40% humidity, too hot to do much outside. That extra 20-25% humidity makes it pretty unpleasant.
GO fix one of them Tecala infused cocktails you like, Margherita, and see if that helps calm you...
