Picked up a new bike this weekend . (CB750F2 836cc)
« on: July 08, 2013, 08:14:54 AM »
Hello all!

It's been awhile since I have been on the forum because I haven't had a bike, but I just picked up a new one this weekend and I am in love! It's a '77 CB750F2 SS with a big list of mods. This is from the original craigslist ad:

Cycle-X 836cc big bore kit with 10.25:1 Wiseco pistons.
Webcam 41 cam.
Cycle-X head kit (including undercut valves, bronze guides, aluminum retainers, HD valve springs, new seals etc.)
Steel Dragon velocity stacks with screens
Rebuilt and re-jetted CB750F PD carbs.
Joker tach plug and steering head nut.
Progressive fork springs and rear shocks.
New double lipped fork seals and boots.
Oil pressure gage.
SS brake lines front and rear with stainless caliper pistons.
Taper steering head bearings.
Cycle-X frame splice kit
HD clutch springs
Larger custom oil tank with Push-Lok oil lines.
4-1 exhaust with stainless megaphone muffler, which sounds like hell has just been unleashed in a good way.
Roller bearing swingarm conversion
Pamco ignition

It has a few others as well like a Tarozzi fork brace, all new custom wiring/electronics, upgraded forks. This thing is a blast to ride. The PO did everything right on it. Except the cosmetic stuff. It could def use a new paint job, but I'm going to enjoy it the way it is for now.

My plan for this bike is to paint/powercoat everything and do a spoked wheel conversion. Once that's done, I think I'll be completely happy with it.

And of course I have a couple questions.....

1. I bought this from a local shop (Limey Bikes in Austin) so I never got a chance to speak with the PO directly. The guy at Limey said that the forks were replaced with later and better 750 forks, but that's all he knew. Is there a way to tell exactly what year they're from?

2. There are currently no turn signals on the bike, but I want to add some. I have searched but I'm not having any luck finding a super basic turn signal diagram using LED's and an electronic flasher. Anyone know of one?

You can use the rear from an older F to get spokes, But teh spoked F bikes only have a single front disk. The twin was a '78 only thing I believe.

I would use a 75-77 GL1000 front wheel. There will be a slight mismatch since the GL has a shoudered aluminum wheel, but it also has twin disks, so you can retain the brake setup.

Nice whip dude!!

You going to add any more "go fast" to it?

For turn signals you can go with something like what I'm running. I have "arrow" lights for the front that mount to the headlight bucket. Not LED's but I like them. I'm also running an "all-in-one" LED brake, tail, turn signal like. I think it was $25 but you also have to get the LFS-1 resistor to make them flash.

If you want any other info let me know.

Nice looking bike!

For flasher wiring you need a hot switched wire from an extra black in your harness somewhere or a fusible link off of the battery if something doesn't exist or easy to adapt. Then on stock bikes it would be a gray wire that goes up to the handlebar switch ( stock switch will have the gray wire) and out of the handebar switch is your light blue and orange for flashers

Use a 3 prong flasher electronic flasher, with the dedicated ground and then you don't have to worry about flashing rates or anything. A regular brand from your local auto parts store will work. The only way you would need anything fancier or different would be if you tried to do one of those all in one tail lights

Looks like stock F forks to me. They were considered better because they flexed less due to the reinforcement ridges on the front and back of the fork. Popular with the racers! The dual cam SS used the same forks so maybe they did replace them with newer forks, but not different.

Nice score! I like the F bikes!!

The GL1000 rear is of course shaft drive, so you can use the rim, but not the hub. If you decide to go that route call Buchanan Spoke. I believe that they sell a kit to adapt the GL rim to the CB750 hub.
