Hey there - this machine is ass-kicking.

Any chance there's more to say about the oil tank -

My son and I took the bikes out for what will probably be the last long ride of the season before it gets uncomfortably cold to ride. Headed out to western NH. We passed this really scenic overlook on the way out but regretfully didn't stop to take a picture. We stopped on the way back but the sun was in the background and it was clouding up a bit so the shot wasn't as spectacular as I had hoped. So many motorcycle enthusiasts in NH. We made new friends everywhere we stopped.

Can't beat the wx in SoCal. I spend a lot of time in LA and like it out there more and more with each passing winter here in NH. We do have some beautiful riding here but the season is kind of short.

Hey man, absolutely love the stance of this bike, you did a great job! I am in the process of building up a front wheel exactly like yours, 19" drop center hoop mated to my stock '76 cb750 hub. I actually just powdered the hoop and its in the oven as I write this. I was wondering if you could tell me what length the spokes should be for when I order some from Buchanan? I read that yours were too long, so do you know what length I should have them make them to?

I'd be happy to make any measurement that will help but I don't know the exact length of the spokes and would need to disassemble the wheel to figure that out. Buchanan said all they needed was the inside diameter of the rim but that didn't work so well. I could measure from the hub hole to the nipple on an inner and outer. Assuming our rims are the same, that should be all they need. You might want to ask them and I'll send you whatever measurement you want.

I've been taking a poll and it's about 50/50. I could go either way. I might keep an eye out for another tank and have both. I'd hate to strip the paint off of the current tank and wind up regretting it.

Stoli ! I keep mine in the Freezer.

Ran through the build, great job, saved another one.  That's the great thing about these bikes, they can say what they want about Hondas build quality, but all in all the bike is still and will always be in my book "THE FIRST SUPER BIKE"

Again Kodos on the bike I love the tires, run them myself, it isn't always about scraping the pegs, had my years of doing that now Im just stylin!

Thanks Tsunami. For the record, I like the tires. I rode the bike as hard as I ever plan to ride it last weekend and miraculously the Firestones didn't disintegrate at 100mph and I didn't skid off the road while cornering. I plan on using this bike for puttering around town for the most part, so they fit the bill. No plans to race her on the Isle of Man.

It is 175mm from the center of the hole in the hub to the base (closest end) of the nipple on each spoke. The measurement is the same for both inner and outer spokes and the rim is centered on the hub so it is the same on the left and right as well. I'll see if I can dig up the measurement of the inner rim diameter so we can make sure yours is the same as mine. Hard to do that with the wheel assembled but I think I have it in an email somewhere.

Probably a little late getting back to you on this, but the inside diameter of the rim is 17 - 3/8".

Hopefully you'll have better luck than I have had with Buchanans. They said that they had my excel rim in their database and my hub is stock but the spokes they sent me were still 1/4" too long. In another build, I had a stock rear rim and hub from a K8 and the bends were wrong on the outers that they sent me.

I'm getting ready to order rims next week but I've held off because of the reported problems with Buchanans.

David Silver Spares has cheaper front & rear rim spoke kits for the K8 but they look like they're the duller zinc coated spokes rather than stainless steel and shiny.  Is no one else doing these besides Buchanans?

You won't find a better made spoke than Buchanans. I looked around and couldn't find a better source for the stainless. There are some other shops out there but I think you'll be facing the same issue. I talked with one of the Buchanan brothers back when I did the K8 and he said that there were some variations in the rear hubs and that is why my spokes didn't fit the first time. The stainless spokes are also thicker than the plated ones so the bend has to be just right, as opposed to the plated which have a little more wiggle room in the hub holes. Since you are using your stock hub with a stock rim, suggest you go ahead and order the spokes but let them know you are sending them a pair (1 inner, 1 outer) from each wheel so they can use them as a template before they actually make them. That way they should get it right the first time and you should be able to fit the 4 spokes in an envelope so your costs are minimal.
