carb needele setting

i am rebuilding carbs,dumb question i need answered want to lean mixture slitghly raise or lower needle clip?

RAISE (move away from pointy end)

can't believe i had a brain fart while working on carbs,anyway started bike after installing new float and setting heights,replaced needles and raised clip by 1 notch,carb 2 no firing right think i have to go back into that carb float height,it started after a minute or 2 but not firing like 1,3,and 4

What year is the bike? 750 or 550?

The clip setting has NOTHING to do with if it fires.

71 750 k1,just trying to lean it out a little,plugs foul after riding 50 miles or so(rich)went from 140 mains to 135"s
