I put my 76 550 motor back together and now I have gained what sounds like a valve tick. I have done a complete valve adjustment on it three times and the sound is not going away. Turning it over with the valve cover off I don't hear the tick. My timing is maxed clockwise and is on the "F" not the "T".

My next guess is the chain is off a link but I didn't want to pull the valve cover again until I ran it by a few people.

Anyone have any guesses that I should check out before doing anything else?

if the carbs arent synced yet maybe do that first and see if it quietens up?a bench sync how ever wont be quite good enough.
