Clutch is clicking.

I can feel the clutch clicking or knocking when I'm riding the friction point in first gear. Don't really feel an engagement loss, but I'm also moving pretty slow.

I haven't had the clutch apart.  I am fairly certain I have adjusted the clutch properly, and I'm using basic Castrol 10W40.

Forgive me as I am fairly new to engines, etc., but is this clutch slippage? Should I tear it open and check spec on the plates and springs?

I had that when I changed out just the friction plates on my F2 motor.  The clutch did, however, engage solid once I let it out all the way.  I was always concerned about this loosening things up and creating unnecessary chain wear (essentially like beating on it with an impact wrench).  Unfortunately, I never never knew why.. and never really investigated because I was building a new motor and was just trying to limp that one along.

It's odd because it doesn't happen all the time. Actually, it doesn't happen that often at all. And it seems more likely to happen if I don't actually come to a complete stop. I'm not saying that I engine brake into first, but if I roll through a stop sign slowly it might happen.

That's exactly what mine was doing.  Never happened from a standing start, only with partial disengagement into first when the bike was rolling 5-10mph.  I suspected that it was from the new friction plates being too grabby, whereas my old ones where shot and, as a result, slid really smooth into gear since there was barely any friction.
