1978 750K valves
« on: July 10, 2013, 05:17:15 AM »
HELP!  I need to replace my valves on the 1978 CB750K. I found some NOS ex. valves for $50 on fleabay but the intake valves are kicking my a$$. I don't want to spend $200 on 4 valves. The part number is different for the 1978, I have read that this is because the space for the keeper is more narrow than the earlier models. CB750supply.com has '69-'77 valves for $10 each, can I use these and the earlier keepers with my spring seats? Or does someone know where I can find the valves I need for less than a mint?  (14711-300-015)

IF the valves fit the seat diameter I don't see any reason you could not use them.
Make sure the valve stem length is the same.

Make sure you re cut the seat properly for the earlier valve. I do not know if they are the same but I would check.

Same diameter, same length and they
are both Honda intake valves so it should work.

The 1978 engines had the most improvements of all of the CB750 SOHC,s so
I would be wondering why they changed the keepers.

If you really want to know ask Ken at Cycle Exchange or Matt at Cycle Exchange in Wisconsin.

Thanks Lucky! I talked to Ken, real nice guy that was more than willing to give some knowledge out.

The '78 k valve do have a shorter keeper groove but are identical otherwise. He says that the angle of the keeper and the stamped top spring retainer are a dangerous combination which cause valves to drop in F models. All that is needed is to replace the top spring seat (retainer) and the valve keepers with 69-76 parts and then use the 69-76 valves which are much easier to source.

I found some stock intakes today for a not so reasonabled price, but it's done. good luck to anyone needing the above info.
