If you had to get a motor shipped 900 miles...
« on: July 08, 2013, 09:31:12 AM »
Any suggestions for a company or method to ship an 800 lb motor/transmission from an old land cruiser 900 miles ?
Zionsville Indiana to Denton, TX.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

Talk with some shipping companies in your area or Dallas to see if they would let you slip your motor crate from Indiana to your area.

U ship might have someone going that way. Sign up and wait for bids.

I just shipped a motorcycle with U-Ship.
Takes 10 min to create an account and it took exactly 15 min to get a response from a shipper.
Bike was picked up and delivered on schedule and without damage.
Overall my experience with them could not be more positive.

Saia trucking has decent rates so does roadway. It helps if it goes to a commercial address with a loading dock. It has always been around $100.00-$200.00 cheaper because I had a loading dock at work. I've used saia for a engine from Cali. To kansas it cost me $200.00 (vw engine) and roadway for a Pepsi machine it was $150.00 from kansas to Philly that was about 5-6 years ago.
I've done a lot of things in my life that I'm not proud of...and the things I AM proud of, "are disgusting"

Forwardair.com is another option, would need to get strapped to a pallet.

I was quoted $200 for a mc engine (900 Z1) from WI to Austin, TX

+1 on forward air. Those jeeping people I know use it often with good results.

Yeah, I used forward air on a VFR engine and frame from Connecticut to KansasMypostan.
I think it cost about $220 to ship it.

I bought an engine off of ebay once and  had some AWESOME Friends actually come up with a plan and helped me get that engine from Florida to West Memphis Arkansas and I met one of them
there and brought it on home. AWESOME effort on their part. AND  I will be forever grateful.
