12 mm (M12) rear wheel sprocket stud torque?
« on: July 20, 2013, 03:51:41 PM »
So, I had 3 of the rear wheel studs that hold the sprocket on come out with the nuts. Does anyone know what I should torque the studs to? Its for a 93 nighthawk 750, 12 mm studs

The Clymer manual I have recommends torquing 12 mm bolts and nuts to 41 ft/lb, sound right? Thats seems a bit excessive.

I'm assuming that a 12mm bolt is actually am M8 fastener.
If so, the torque spec is approx. 20 ft lbs.

Nope, it is an M12 fastener.

Torque on a stud really doesn't matter. Just tighten it with some blue locktite on the threads and then torque the nut.

That makes sense. The pressure of the Flange Nut on the whole system should prevent things from back out.

Done and Done. I torqued them done to 15 Ft/lbs, but with blue loctite. Thanks for the advice.
