Front Wheel axle nut torque
« on: July 10, 2013, 10:05:45 PM »
Hey everybody; I'm back!  After a rather extended hiatus, Operation: Enduring Rebuild is back on!  At least until I leave again...

So I was fixing my front wheel today, as I misaligned my speedo gearbox when I replaced my bearings.  After all was said and done, I went to torque the front wheel axle nut, only to find that my 23mm socket didn't fit.  I picked up a deep well, but it isn't deep enough.  I've checked every autozone/oreilly's/advance/lowes/homedepot/tractor supply around, and nobody has a crows foot bigger than 22mm.  Short of ordering one online, I'm at a loss.  So I guess my question is:  what do you guys use?  Is there a technique or another tool I can use to torque, or do I just need to cough up the money for an expensive set of crows feet?

Feels good to be back wrenching on the old girl!

Anybody??  I know it's kind of a weird question, but what do you guys use?  I've yet to find a 23mm socket deep enough, and all of the crows feet have been GAWDAWFUL expensive.

Is everyone just afraid to admit using germantorque on that one? ???

I can't think what I use now....but what about a 15/16 socket or ring spanner?

Oh, I just do mine up till it's tight.  ;)

'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

I'm generally pretty hesitant to try SAE tools on metric hardware and vise versa, but I may need to give it a shot.  My math tells me it's only about 0.8mm difference, so I don't think it'll be TOO loose.  I definitely have a 15/16 crowsfoot at work, so I might have to borrow that and give it a shot.

Thanks!  Sometimes you just need that one guy to kick you out of the box.  ;D
