camera guys

Hey All,
I have been saying I need a digital camera other than my 10 year old Sony cybershot 3.2 meg.
So I was really liking the Nikon 7000 when came out. I really like the 7100. Is it really worth the $400 for the 7100? Now I think the 7000 is about 800.00 Your going from a 16 meg sensor (7000) to a 24 meg sensor (7100). So what do you shoot with?
I have an old Tamron 300/2.8 adaptall and a Nikon 80-200 2.8
I was planning on spending around the 1,200 originally on the D7000 when it came out.
I like shooting mostly outdoor stuff, like my sisters kids at there games, landscape, Zoo shots. I like to get enlargements of 16x20 and frame them.
I used to shoot med format so I'm used to looking at 2 1//4" slide/negatives.
in town there is a D300 27,000 shutter clicks 550 6 month warranty.
or they have a 7000 with 7,700 click there asking 699 and asked if they would go 650 cash the refused my offer.  A new D7000 is 800.
So do you think the extra 400 is worth the better a/f, more megs and no lowpass filter.
I should be able to get 16x20 from all the cameras.
D300 12.3 meg 550.00 at store
D7000 16.2 meg 699.00 at same store. New 800.00 at other store.
D7100 24.1 meg

the $1200.00 for the 7100 would be tight for a few months. I could get the D300 and another decent lens.

More my main ? is what do you shoot and what quality do you get when you get pictures blown up too 16x20 or bigger.
I have picked them all up and really like the feel of the D300 for my big hands. The guy at the used place had his 7000 with handgrip and it felt good. the 7100 is a little bigger in all and have not tried the handgrip with it yet but i'm sure I will like the feel.

For what you need I highly recommend going with the D300. You will not only save your pocket, you will have a camera with a multi cam 51 point af system and it also has a built in motor so you can use the less expensive lens that do not have a built in motor.

We have a photography business and own one of these in our collection.

Oh and the magnesium body is great to have and the size of the camera allows for a steady shot which equals sharper pictures.

I agree with Dave. I shoot digital as well as film (35mm and 4x5). There's a good deal of hype associated with having more and more pixels. Years ago folks said 35mm film was limited. Have a look at this and use it to help decide.
