as Valenteno Rossi would say in his post race interview...ok, so,..tis what
happen
Friday Practice day
- got 3 practice sessions in before the rain came and a sidecar did 2 full
laps of track oiling ...hmmm
-major carb issues..would hang up between 8 and 9k rpms..learned if I roll
off throttle about a 1/4" it would get past 9k and I could roll back on
-not a good way to ride but these are brand new carbs so a steep tuning
curve can be expected..have to get to a Dyno with gas analyser before
Mosport to sort it out..right now we're really only guessing which way to go
Sat
- first race I won my class and was first overall as well..Doug MaCrae on his 750 Norton said he could of got me back on the last corner of the last lap but with a lap
rider there he opted not to..ya sure Doug LOL !! track was dry but still a
lot of wet patches in some corners so it was dicey at best..this track is
like ice with any moisture on it..supposedly there is a sealer on there
because the Indy cars tend to rip it up
-had gone leaner on the carbs and it was much better for the
stumble,,definitely rideable
-was back out 2 races later and it was starting to spit..great start but
really raining now..got the lead down the back straight but the next corner
was so bad I had my feet down to steady the bike ..unbelievable
-3 corners later I was turning to go up the hill under the Honda bridge and
the front end went right out and down I went..very freaky for me as it was
my first ever crash in 8 years of racing ( told my friend Mick that and he
said..obviously I haven't been trying hard enough !! )
-I ran off to the side but the bike was on it's side at the top of the hill
still on the edge of the track..well 2 laps later another guy does the same
thing and now his bike is sliding right towards mine and I'm freakin out
!!...it stopped right beside mine !! whew !!
-bike had mininmal damage (clutch lever broke, bent up rear set which was an
easy fix and up to the swap meet for a nice new clutch lever)
Sun.
- first race..dry track and bike was awesome..got away from my class and
hooked up with 3 of the big bikes like a KZ1000...four of us were flying around
in a tight group having a blast out there !!
-got the 3rd guy after turn one so now 3rd overall for me..the engine
bobbled right before the keyhole section and then really bad down the back
straight..
-after the race I talked to the guy that I had just passed and he said he
really took evasive action to miss me as we started out down the back
straight...he knew something was wrong with my bike
-at the end of the back straight the bike just died..later back in the pits
I found the Shorai battery to be at 10v..never had a problem with those
batteries in 3 years so I think something sucked it down to that voltage..it
was full charge when I went out
-went through all the wiring, changed a kill switch and borrowed a higher
capacity Yuasa from Doug just in case the problem was still there..
-this what my plan was because of the issue..I bolted for 2 laps to try and
build up a lead and then started backing off to save the battery..each time
I came out of the keyhole section I could see 2nd and 3rd place guys coming
up to it so I knew I was good..bike lasted the race and with that win and
Sat's win in that class it gave me the Grand National Championship for 70's
GP500 ..very stressful race worrying if the battery was going to make
it..glad it was over
so overall an awesome weekend..have a few issues to sort on the bike but
with so many new things done on it I think it's going to be good when it is
sorted..and on that note..
HUGE THANKS to Harry,Tim and Brent for all their help and input with the new
engine build..couldn't have done it without you guys !!!
THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH !!!!
Hi to all and bye for now, ( at least to all of you that are still awake
after reading all that..z z z z z z zzzzzzz LOL)
Scott
ps..I don't think this motor is a Waller Blue Rocket beater but hopefully we can get some more ponies with some Dyno work...
