Just Arrived: '93 Yamaha FZR600 - Boston, MA
« on: July 14, 2013, 08:21:04 PM »
I have finally taken ownership of the '93 red, white and blue FZR600, and after a week of waiting anxiously I am happy to report that it was worth the waiting game. This purchase is quickly becoming my little, modern rocket-ship.

With 30,000 miles on the clock, this FZR still looks fantastic and has aged quite well. The transmission shifts smoothly, and the motor pulls hard all the way up the tachometer. The plastics are all present with minimal scuffing and cracking over the years. The paint is still beautiful (myself and a few friends were admiring it in the sunshine this afternoon). Overall it needs a good degreasing as years of grime have been layered upon some of the surfaces, but the machine as a whole is clean and seemingly well-maintained. New tires, sprockets and a drive chain have been replaced, and remaining on the to-do list is an oil change, brake flush, radiator flush and cleaning, as well as the possibility of a carb synch. I'm sure other gremlins will make themselves known in the coming miles but for now I am going to enjoy the smile Yamaha has put on my face; I've completed close to 300 very happy miles in the past 24 hours...

Thanks guys. Definitely think it is a good addition to the stable.

I was figuring you could get on the cleaning with your busted leg and all. It'd be therapeutic for you I think... :P

It certainly did ride nice and smooth during my high speed test ride Saturday ;). Exhaust sounds very nice - not loud but a good thrum to it. Good buy Alex!

Oh come on now, Prokop. You can't try to clarify the comment now. I've already accepted the compliment. ;D

For the record though, there was no confusion. I'm aware that the bike is a lot prettier than I. ;)

Does that FZR600 have the 20 valve engine ? I'd recommend a valve adjustment & make her run smooth as silk.I believe they are the tiny little(9mm)valve shims.
I'd do that before the carb synch.,& don't forget to make sure the little water bleed holes at the bottom of ea. spark plug well is cleaned out.I had a customer w/ an FZR1000 who had a bad misfire & the engine kept stalling because water from washing the bike had gotten trapped underneath those long O.E. plug caps & pretty much rotted them & they were shorting out to the metal around them.
It sure ran GREAT on all 4 after replacing those plug caps !

I love the small ones too !
Do your BEST...nobody can take that away from you.
