Help me put an aluminum box swingarm on my CB350F. Please!
« on: August 07, 2006, 03:04:29 PM »
I want to put an aluminum box-style swingarm on my 1974 CB350F like in the attached pic. (I know it's a 400F frame, but you get the idea.) Can anyone point me in the right direction of where to get started. I have access to a great machinist. So a little modifying wouldn't be the end of the world. Which bike's swingarm to get started with? What will fit? How big of a rear tire will I be able to squeeze in there?

your starting point would be measuring the width of your existing swingarm at the pivot point and then the length of the swingarm from pivot to rear axle, then looking to see what is available that would be closest to those measurements. or that's what I would do

Marty, Your best starting point is to get hold of an arm from a NSR250 MC18 or MC16 this will fit on the 350 or 400 frame.  You will need to alter the bearing set up with new bearings or bushes and spacers etc. The std tire on the NSR was a 150 on a 17 inch rim.

www.swingarm.com is a great place to go. Box section aluminum swingarms with or with out bracing, polished or unpolished , std. or eccentric adjusters. Look out though, prices start at about $750.00 and go up depending on options. They are, however, fantastic pieces, full race quality.

Hey Kevin, how's it going? Er, aren't the NSR250s all monoshock? Not that I'm trying to put anyone off monoshocking a 400/4, but I've been building one for a couple of years now & it is pretty tricky. I think I've got it beat now, just another year or 2 to go...
