Hey Everyone!

So we dont see these types of builds really anymore, but recently I aquired a FREE CB750 with a title... (no keys tho  :(  but I can't complain)  I did a bunch of work at a buddies house and as a thank you he gave me his beat up, old, non running, rusty CB750... It was love at first sight... I knew exactly what I was going to do with it. PUT AS LITTLE $$$ INTO IT AS POSSIBLE, and make it look like the most bad ass bike out there. Im only 18 years old and with little money and only a little mechanical experience I think a rat bike would be the best approach to it. I mean c'mon, who doesn't want a bike that you could lean up against a tree or take it down a dirt road and not worry about the shine on their all chromed up bike. So with all that said, WELCOME to my post where ill take you guys down the road of a rat bike build. Thanks, and enjoy!!

So here she is, in all her pride and joy...


Did a full carb rebuild on her. She needed some new lungs! But unfortuannly I used a little too much force when trying to remove one of the float pins and broke the leg that attached to the carb body (whoops!) so now I'm in need of the L1 carb body. IF ANYONE IS PARTING OUT THEIR BIKE OR HAS AN EXTRA SET OF CARBS PLEASE CONTACT ME!! so im still getting the carbs figured out. Such a pain!





I did a custom CHEAP paint job on the bike to get the look I wanted. only 10$ ;D




After a few weeks of work I got her mocked up the way i'd like. Remember, im going for a terribly low budget build. I wanna be able to say " my 300$ piece of.. beauty bike just smoked your 4 grand pretty princess bike. I wouldn't mind some clip ons but I got a free set of clubman bars from a friend who bet them in a game of poker... too easy.


Theres still a bunch of work that needs to get done.. Seat, carbs, tuning and wiring. Then she should be ready to wake the neighbors up!

I like this build and the bare looking tank. I presume you clear coated it to prevent rust.

yessir. just a cheap 1 part spray can clear coat. I just have to watch out for spilling any gas on it.. lol

Yeah, I love the look of it too. Its tricky getting it so it doesn't rust overtime. the more prep work you do and the better clear you use will always help in the long run.

About to buy some pod filters and get her running when I am home for break, any suggestions? Will I have to rejet my carbs?

don't get rid of that air box.  if you are going for cheap and you already have it, keep it.   But at the very least, sell it to someone else on the forum.  I have read A LOT of posts of people looking for those air boxes because they or the PO put pods on and trashed the old air box.

I do like the tank as well by the way, I have one sitting in my building I stripped as well 8)

true, my airbox is just very badly warped, I guess ill just have to mess with it and make it work.

might want to check out Shinko's tires.  They are a cheaper brand but a good bit of guys have been using them on the forum, myself included.  Give them a search in the google search bar of the site.  The 712s (I think - forgot the exact number) are what people seem to be trying on here.  I have about 1000 on the rear and haven't had an issue.  Believe I got it for about 55 bucks.

  Looking great and love the tank! If you need any help with the electrics I just went through mine. I found some awesome solutions really cheap for a regulator rectifier you can make yourself from an auto parts store super easy super inexpensive.  keep us updated

So this past weekend I got pretty far on the bike, I fixed my carb problems, ignition coil problem, installed a new wiring harness, and I did some cutting to the frame, Cut about 15 pounds off the bike. I took it out for a test ride around my neighborhood and lets just say that the 4 into 1 exhaust is insane, I woke up everyone. Its incredible how much more power is there now that I cut the frame and cleaned the carbs.

My next move is focusing on the gas tank. I had to re clear coat it because the first time I just used a cheap can of clear coat, I then got a paint gun so I'm going to use a 2 part to make it more durable and the clear wont get eaten away by gas and other corrosive materials.

I'm also fabricating a custom latch for my gas tank that secures it to the frame. I used 1/4 in steel rod and made my own custom jig for bending the rod into the desired shape, It took some time and planning but I think its going to turn out very nice. Im using an old navy belt for the strap, the leather will match the seat. It should look pretty sweet.

Don't mind the drawing on the tank. My friends decided to use it as a notebook!

I also appreciate all the intrests you guys have in my build. Im not anywhere near a professional mechanic. I am learning as I go so please bare with me!

Lastly, I am trying to think of ways to fabricate a rear loop for my bike. I got have a pipe bender so I dont know what to do. Would anyone be willing to get some business by bending me some steel? Please let me know if you would be willing to and let me know the price.

searching ebay or dime city cycles you can get a hoop for up to $70 (have seen them for $50) i know that is probably not in line with what you want to do, but also you tube and google pipe bending. might turn up something.

Nope, I already had one from a previous build. Its a flat style seat with a little up curve at the end.

I can thank my friends for that. I mean, we were all born in the 90's ;D The strap is for looks and it will be used to secure the gas tank.
