CB400f Choke linkage spring and ball bearing
« on: April 06, 2014, 12:29:46 AM »
Hi guys,

After some much appreciated threads on here, I have been banging my head against a wall trying to figure out the little ball bearing and spring for the choke linkage and now I have finally come to the conclusion (i hope is right) that the spring I assumed was the right bit, is not. I gather the spring is supposed to fit inside that little hole just below the larger where the linkage goes through, but alas, mine does not so i believe I have misplaced that spring and I am trying to force what may be a spare idle screw spring in there - this is too big.
Any ideas where to get one of these springs? I am in Australia and happy to pay but prefer not to chase overseas due to ridiculous postage on such a small item.
Many thanks in advance.

Is this what you need?

Want me to pop it in the same envelope?

Hi Trevor,
Again, very good of you but the part I am chasing is this: I have the ball bearing but mislaid the spring.
Cheers

I have lost similar sized parts - I finally bought a floor magnet and swept the shed after moving out the countless things littering the floor (bikes, lawnmowers, boxes of records, old toys...).
I found almost all the parts I had lost over the years and struggled to replace - plus the tiny screw I was actually looking for.

That spring is pretty dang small. Try a small engine repair shop as there are similar mechanisms in their carbs. they may have something usable as a new replacement part or a few old ones in a junk box.

Assuming Keihin used the same mechanism on many carb racks, a bike breaker should be able to get you one but might not want to dismantle a rack to sell a tiny spring.

Right now I can't think of any common cheap thing you could buy to remove a suitable spring from.
