Topic: When your throttle cable breaks...you're gonna have a bad time. Replace Ass'y?

So on a short test ride to test out a new master cylinder I had just installed, this happened



Lucky I pulled the bike into a lot about 25 min walk from home, had my girlfriend drive me back with some tools. Led to me removing the throttle return spring on the carbs, shoving my hand in the carbs to manually operate the slides and get her back home.

Anyways now I'm looking to replace not only the cables but also the throttle assembly.
I have clubman bars on it currently and the stock cables are a bit on the long side.
I would like to clean up the controls a bit more so I would like to go with a smaller kill switch/starter assembly as well as a new, non-oem throttle assembly and shorter throttle cables.

Anyone have any good experiences with any universal throttle assembles that you can recommend?
Also looking for a good source for shortened throttle cables. Can i make my own?

I used flux and solder, lasted many thousand miles so far.

Happened to me once, The "pull" cable snapped, so I had to put the "push cable" on the pull side of the carbs to get home. Wierd feeling turning the throttle backwards when driving home. But its a good strategy if you dont have any tools on you.

I'm pretty sure MotionPro will custom make a cable for you. Bring your checkbook and a cosigner.

Never will I buy motionpro again. I bought oem cables from Honda last month for the K1.. as per HondaMan....... They are the bees knees

I put a single cable Harley throttle on a Honda Shadow. Called Motion Pro and told them what I had and the length I wanted; $60 later it was in my mailbox.

Throttle cables broke on both my 750's...     fortunately you have the throttle thumbscrew which can be cranked up to 3500+ RPM or so, and the kill switch is your friend to get you home! you can make it up small hills this way. Both now have the sweet MotionPro cables on them.

I recently put clubmans on with new Motion Pro push & pull cables. Definitely get the cable lube and tool. You just have to route the cables properly (no binds, make sure it snaps back nice, little bit of play and you should be fine). I have a 77 750k

Well I purchased a motion pro throttle ass'y and cables.

seems the cables its self is too short by kinda alot. The overall lenght is ok, but the lenght form the housing to the end is way too short.

Is the '69-'76 a different cable from the 77&78? I guess it would make sense as the carbs are different.

Oh well time to order some different ones.

Tews what was wrong with the ones you got? Whith the bar change he can not go OEM without being to long.

They were really off on length.  Pay the extra amount and buy OEM.  Really smooth
