Topic: Recommendations?

Hi guys,

I've been riding my 1975 750 Super Sport for a while now and am tired of adjusting the points and adjusting the stock carbs, etc... I just wanna ride.

What do you fine folks recommend for replacement carbs, ignition and coils? I don't want to race, but I wouldn't mind getting up to highway speed a little quicker, if you know what I mean.

Ignition and coils -- I'm running a pamco setup. For $270 (i think) you get low OHM coils and the ignition. It was really easy to install and works great.

For carbs...without motor work I'm not sure you're really going to benefit from a different rack. Plus...any multi-carb bank is going to require a certain amount of tinkering. If nothing else to keep them in balance. Going with new carbs you'll end up spending a lot of time tinkering just trying to find the sweet spot in the needles and mains.

I have brand new RS34's on my 836. I think I've spent at least a day wrenching on them in the last month trying to find the right combination, reseting the balance, testing, etc.

ps...i'm close...and RS34's would likely be way to big for a stock bike

Bliz ; I ride a Not stock 1976 cb750F1 (my avatar). I've never been inside the motor so I can't say if it's stock in there or not. I run 17/43 on my gears with a 140/90H-16" (26" diam.) tire. With that gearing I'm geared more towards cruising and not stop light > stop light. When I got it it had 17/48 gears and a 120/90-18" tire (26.9" diam.), with that combination I could pull the front wheel off the ground at 3000 > 4000 rpm's just by nailing the throttle !! But set up like it is now it runs Damn Fine (I've seen 110mph on the speedo with more throttle to go !! Stock ignition, stock round top carbs with a breadbox breather. I installed an New Complete points plate and I rebuilt the carbs when I got the bike (4 years ago) and I have done some tinkering with the jets and clip positions on the needles. This has been because I've got a different headpipe custom muffler and I'm picky as Hell about my bike performing as GOOD AS IT CAN !!! Once a year I clean and check the points but other than that and the Normal checking over of the bike I don't HAVE to do a thing with it. Get on fire it up and ride ! Usually starts by the second kick when stone cold, when it's warmed up 1/2 a kick and it's running !!  So really once you've got it tuned right with the stock stuff ( No fancy Aftermarket whizbang stuff) you should be fine. Once you do that IF you WANT Performance star getting out your wallet ! Get the carbs CLEAN and right, make sure your using TEC points and keep away from Diachi ignition stuff (complete crap most of the time) !! Do your normal 3000 mile tune up and you should be good to go. If you run into any problems come back here and ask questions ! Lots of KNOWLEDGE here !!!   ...cougar...

I've had a set of Dyna coils and a Dyna s ignition on 2 of my bikes
For 20 years. Once a year I would put a timing lite to check the ignition
And it never changes. I have recently put on a new set of Dyna coils
And a new Dyna S just because I rebuilt the motors
To me you can't go wrong with the coils and ignition that I use.
As far a carbs you can jet the stock carbs for pods and a pipe but aftermarket
Carbs require a lot of tinkering to get right as all of my carbureted
Bikes run flat slides

well, if you just want to go a just a little quicker, then OUT OF THE HIPO SECTION!

seriously, you might hear more meaningful tips in the general section. as you can see people in HIPO are already 'casually' name dropping hot rod stuff on you like 34 carbs and such.  good souls

the kind of increase in 'oomph' that you seem to be seeking will come much more easily from a big bore kit rather than carbs.  it's a less expensive route than you'd think

Stock carbs is Ok with 836, ported head, larger inlet valves, hotter cam (AF SS-1=. I'll finally put my Mikuni VM29 on again with new OEM inlet boots. Last year was 84.
Problem with Mikuni inlet boots made me to use stock with bigger main jets (140-145), needles one step up. Worked really fine.
My new CX7 cam will most likely prefer my old VM29's that look like new.
836, ported head + cam + 4-1 + KN type filters (pods) will make a difference. Carbs after these goodies is my experience.
