Topic: clutch rattle that doesn't soften with clutch in

maybe the subject line says it all.

I've got a clutch/transmission rattle on my '75 CB750F that quietens a little (but not much at all) when I pull the clutch in. What do you reckon my problem (with the bike) is?

Also, noticed today that the engine on the side of no.4 cylinder gets a lot hotter quicker than the no.1 side. Thoughts?

+1 on that.
You wouldn't think out of sync carbs could make an engine so noisy but it can make an engine sound like a bucket of bolts. I split the case on my 550 and installed a new primary chain which did quite things down but the engine still rattles at idle if the carbs are out of sync.

I'm guessing that it's not running well on #1. If it's only running on 3 cylinders (or only firing occasionally on #1, hence the cooler pipe) it'll rattle like a bastard! I had a real rattle on my F2, which turned out to be a clagged starter motor. Cheers, Terry.
