Moto GP at Indy
« on: July 24, 2013, 01:44:44 AM »
The Moto GP at Indy is coming up soon and was just wondering if anyone here was planning on being there and if so will anybody be taking their SOHC? So far it looks like my wife and I and youngest son will be there with my wife and I on the 750 and our son on his cbr weather permitting.

Ill be there unless something disastrous happens at work, last year me and a cousin went to the dirt races at the fair grounds, the day when you got to do a lap around the actual moto gp course at IMS and then to the race on sunday.

The AMA dirt races at the state fair grounds are a must see, I think they are the friday night before the moto gp.

I won't be on a sohc, I'll be on my zx11, my riding buddy will be on a busa

Although it's better than twiddling one's thumbs at home, I've got to say that the MotoGP has become the most boring of events. With all the electronic bike control wizardry it's just a bunch of guys going round and round - a la Nascar. Oh for the glory days of 500GP racing with wild wheelies, tank slappers and power slides!! Damn shame.

Edit: In the old days the TV hosts would be talking about the bikes, the engines, tires, technology, etc. Now it's such a bore.  :'(

Watched the race last week at Laguna Seca, was a great race. Nothing like NASCAR.

Nothing like NASCAR these guys race rain or shine, we always sit at the North end of the course, you can see the last 5 or 6 turns with the final turn being a very hard left hander onto the main stretch of the Indianapolis motor speed way.

A couple years ago it was ran in the rain and watching these psychos come out of the last set of turns and unleash the beasts down a 3/4 mile straightway was really something to see. And as I said in the prior post the dirt mile at the Indiana State fair grounds the same weekend is well worth watching.

In a way I'd have to agree but seeing an event in person is a whole different experience than watching it on TV. I absolutely hate watching drag racing on TV but I've been to the U.S. Nationals at Indy a few times and WOW what an experience that was, actually listening to a top fuel dragster or funny car for the first time and the shock wave of sound that hits you when they launch is indescribable.

My only concern about taking my 750 down there is how quickly I can get it parked, I'm not crazy about the idea of possibly getting caught in bumper to pumper traffic approaching the speedway and the engine overheating because of it.

there is a lot of parking, the moto GP dont draw the crowds the the indy car and nascar once did, they handle it well, you just need to know where you are going and be prepared to pay piper

Then PLEASE do me a favor and PM me about any need to know info specifically about where to go for parking and a guestimate on how much cash to bring for parking fees. Thanks in advance.
