You gotta love that Egil! Ha ha, Cheers, Terry. ;D ;D ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I have said many times (fire cures all woes).  Egil wears fire.  Now that is cool.  I only worry Terry that he will not understand the slang we all use and he will arrive a my fron door and bat my ears off.... Oh sorry thats you that knocks peoples ears off. ;D.  Hey if I see a viking boat in my driveway I'm riding.

Back around '78 I had a '75 750 K5. Went for a Sunday drive with my wife, now EX, and was challenged by a couple quys in a '57 Chev hop-up. Took the challenge, got up to 105+ before the Chev called it quits, I pushed it a few more MPH and the front end was very light at that point,, as in almost airborne! Took another 1/2 mile or more to coast downto legal limits! Adrenaline to much longer to settle down! ;D

Booked for 115 mph on a Kawasaki Mach111 in 1971.

Hey, I had a 70 Mach111/ H1.. I fondly remember when it seized up as the needle hovered around 120mph. Great bike though, in some ways!
G'day Tim, top bike eh?
I had the drum front brake which was supposed to be no good but I don't know....it was never on the groung long enough.
A mate of mine was up my tail one day at a veeery high speed & he reckoned he could see the hinge in the middle of the frame working (he had a 500/4 with Dunstall goodies).

According to my speedometer, I once had my 78 CB-750 up to 135 mph on a slight downhill with stock engine and Kerker 4 into 1 header. Front end started shaking (death wobbles) so I shut it down and have never gone over 110 on any bike since. My current 72 CB-750 has no trouble hitting 110 but I don't have the guts to take it any faster (getting to old for that).

Doris said I am still good for 3 minutes.  I don't know if that is fast or not?  According
to her it is to fast.  Live short ride hard

My CB550 got up to 102mph.   Usually keep it around 65mph as I find that is the sweet spot for the bike.  My old 2001 Yamaha R6 got up to 145mph in 5th gear and had alot more left but I didn't :)

Oh no, I can hear Abba music too!

Egil will definitely send to boys round if you confuse that Swedish group with the more cerebral Norwegian pop music.

What do you mean "what Norwegian pop music" ??

Mine had the drum too, which was great so long as you allowed 15 minutes between each time you used it in anger. Yeah, mine's frame would flex too, if you accelerated hard uphill through the gears it would pull to the left! And it had a horrid weave at 100+ which you could cope with by letting go of the bars and just holding the throttle open with your fingertips, assuming you were feeling brave enough at that point. It's about 18 years since I sold that bike yet I can still remember a lot of the rides I had on it, which says something about how it felt to ride. Would I buy another? Oh yes!

What do you mean "what Norwegian pop music" ??

Well you're right of course Steve, Abba is Swedish, but I couldn't think of any music from norway that the majority of sohc-ers could readily identify. I watched the Eurovision Song Contest this year on TV, and to be honest, I've stepped in things that don't stink as much as European "Pop" music, ha ha!

Now back on the subject of scary speed, a mate of mine's older brother was interested in buying a worked Kawasaki H2 750 back in the 1970's, but as he had no license, the seller just told him to get on the back so he could experience the power of this thing, it was painted a beautiful gloss black with air-brushed murals, and chrome expansion chambers, and was rumoured to be good for 160 Mph!

We watched them ride off, Corry (the owner) riding and Charlie (my mate's big brother) hanging on. The did a couple of laps of town (we could work out where they were by the sound) and on the way back Corry hoisted the front wheel in the air and had the thing vertical at about 100 mph! Charlie was hanging on for grim death, but bought the bike anyway, he rode it for awhile once he got his license, but would lose his license on a regular basis so sold it to a guy who put the engine in a twin engined drag bike. Now that would have been scary! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Nice one Heffay,

Had the CR out yesterday at a drag meet in Devon on the South coast of England.
We had never been to this one before, turned out to be a dissused WW2 air field on top of a mountain, 1600 feet above sea level.
It was a very warm day with a light breeze blowing across the strip.
When we fired the bike up it instanty fouled three plugs.
We changed them but on the first two passes down the strip it had a slight missfire.
During the lunch break we changed the other plug and it sounded fine.
On his third run Chris recorded his fastest run ever (without a tail wind) in 13.5 secs at 98 mph to set a new course record for his class.
The motor sounded great through the four megaphones but it was upstaged by the apperance of a 1961 250 Honda replica racer.
This little baby was over geared for the quater mile and required masses of clutch slip to get it under way.
Every time this little beauty fired up ready to run the paddock went silent.
A few pics of our bike can be found on page 3 of this thread.
Hope you all had as good a week end as we did.

Regards Sam.
Powering this little gem of the line required 16000 rpm, it made peoples hair stand on end as it brought back the sounds of the 60s

Dave,

In the late 60s may have been 1970 I had the pleasure of pit crewing for Ralph Bryans when the FIM outlawed the works 6s and 5s.
Honda allowed Ralph and Mike Hailwood To race the bikes at none championship meetings.
Mike had a 350 6 and a 500 4, Ralph a 250 6 and 125 5.
Ralph had Irish friends in Warrington that had a bike shop that I helped out in.
He stayed over in Warrington the night before an Oulton Park meeting, and the bike shop acted as his pit crew as he was on his own.
In 250 practice he dumped it into the sand at the bottom of Dears Leap filling the oil coolers and carbs with sand.
We had to strip it all in the lunch break and clean it all out.
He won both 125 and 250 races.
It was quite an experience for for us all.

Heez Sam, that must have ben an experience, is it true that the wail from the Honda 6 could affect your inner ear and cause you to lose balance and fall over? Man, you must be older than dirt! Ha ha, Cheers, (young) Terry. ;D

Sorry to interrupt  ;)

1976 CB550F - 110MPH at about 8500RPM.  Pretty much all there is I think  ;D

I hit this daily in my commute to work - I'm not passing lots of people at this speed either - pretty crazy speeds on the 401.
