71 Honda CB500 fuel line hoses - best to purchase
« on: July 16, 2013, 02:29:15 PM »
I am replacing all the fuel lines for my 71 CB500 Four and I've seen others comment on the poor quality or fit of hoses purchased at local automotive supply shops.  Does anyone have suggestions on quality hoses that fit well with the 71-73 CB500?

Thanks!
Mike

I'm testing some medical oxygene tubing it seems to be doing good. It hasn't melted or stretched out like the automotive line does. You might try that plus the stuff I got is a cool greenish blue color.

What size is it? I think mine has 6mm on it. Someone on here recommended this blue 5.5 mm from this place. http://www.alssnowmobile.com/PRODUCTPARTS.ASPX?pn_deptid=304

1.00 a foot but you have to pay shipping of course.

I just ordered 3m of 5.5mm black Honda fuel line on EBay. A little bit pricey but it went on without issue and doesn't leak, kink or dry out.

Look for a shop that specializes in vintage Volkswagens. The cloth braided fuel line from a VW works great!

My local Honda shop has the 5.5mm black Honda fuel line in stock for $2.99/ft. Check the parts fiche, but I believe that is what is recommended for the 500.

I'm not sure on the size it's the smaller of the 3 sizes they got I'll check tomorrow it's a national company that rents from us and they had some in the trash I asked the guy about it and he said here take this a d handed me a brand new package  they have clear and greenish blue. I e had a piece of soaking in fuel for about 2 weeks and its held up with no problems. This weekend I'm putting it on my chopper and cb550.

I like the Helix clear fuel lines.  It's nice to see the fuel so there's no doubt about delivery issues.  Put the ends on a screwdriver and hit with a heat gun for a sec.  Slips on and off the nipples easy while keeping a leak free fit.  I don't use any fuel line clamps either.  And they come in different transparent colors if you wanna match your paint scheme.

Thanks to everyone for the specs and suggestions!  I ended up buying the "Honda Motorcycle 5.5mm I.D. OE Metric Fuel hose - 1 Meter Length with 2 Clamps" from eBay which worked out to $4.87/foot after shipping.  It's not clear which is a downside, but I prefer the stock look.  I'll post back with my success with the hose, but I expect it should have no surprises since it's the OEM stuff.

eBay link here from seller "hermans-spares" - http://www.ebay.com/itm/251303127455?item=251303127455&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME:L:OU:US:3160&vxp=mtr

The 71 CB500 is really coming together now.  I have the front end disassembled and once I get some ball bearings and races I'll be able to put on the brand new triple tree and start putting things back together.  I'll start posting in the project area as things progress.

Thanks again for the tips!
