Anybody watching this show-Philly Throttle ?
« on: July 20, 2013, 09:02:47 PM »
Watched it last night for the first time when I stumbled on it till we lost power from a storm. Seems a little more real and gritty than the Tuttles and saw some Honda's etc and lots of good junk around like our shops on here maybe.Sure a local knows more than us about them, but what the Hey,we could all make a good show. PS- The word impressive is NOT allowed  ;) WHOOPS -- meant for Open Forum and will not allow me to Delete   8)     http://dsc.discovery.com/tv-shows/philly-throttle

Yeah saw it for the first time the other night also. I liked it. Adam and the guys were restoring a 1938 Matchless bike and also purchased from the same guy a 1967 Norton cafe racer to redo and resale so they could keep the shop doors open and pay the light bill.
Saw several Honda around the shop to.

I agree Eric. With all the people, knowledge, and bikes that are here should be able to do we one heck of a show 8)

I've watched all of the episodes I think. I think 3. Works on some cool bikes. But IMHO the owner is a bit loud and obnoxious, almost too much for me to watch. But not many shows so I'll suffer.

There are plenty of people on here that I bet could make a better one.

Watched all 3 episodes so far.  Not bad, but the owner can be annoying at times.  Comes on after Warlocks Rising.

It's not shown in Oz yet, but my mate Jim in Oregon told me about it, but he wasn't as generous as you guys, he said it was crap. I'll have to check it out, Jim can be a little over-critical at times. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I like 'What's in the Barn' on Velocity...I guess they're all Discovery Channel shows.

IMHO it's a pretty good show. Seems more real than others. They actually work on bikes, not just tack doo dads on. What's in the barn is ok, more about making the deal than getting the bikes running.

Well, he's a musician (pretty decent too), therefore insane by definition..........

I like "What's in the Barn", it's amazing to me that there are so many historic bikes still gathering dust in Barns.

The episode I saw last night featured two bikes that were over 100 years old, and one of them (A Harley single) had brand new old stock tires on it, it looked like you could just pump the tires up and ride away.

It was the sellers Grandfather's bike, and his Grandfather had bought it new. He wouldn't have sold it except he'd been diagnosed with cancer and was re-assessing his future, which was sad. Cheers, Terry. ;D

The shop is just a few blocks from me, a LOT of cool stuff in there.  Adam is actually a pretty cool guy and very knowledgeable.  He is a little rough around the edges, but what I like about him, from what I've spoken to him, is that he really likes to remain true to the craftsmanship that these bikes are;  Not just "oooooh, you know what would look cool, chop up the frame, add a rear hoop, strip all of the electrical, etc...  I think everyone looks a little douchey on those shows because they edit them to make it look like there's constant drama.  If you're ever in Philly stop over there.

Wasn't on last night.  Wonder if they shot more than 3 episodes.  Warlocks Rising is fun to watch.

Been watching. I don't know the guys in the shop but my studio-mate Marc Brodzik of Woodshop Films and Scrapple TV knows them all. Interesting to me that I happen to live in Fishtown, USA (Phila, PA) and that I've been recently, reawakening my passion for cycles. Guess you can call it a "mid-life crisis"...but a dose of cancer will do that to a person. Been working on a 1977 Honda CB 400. Cafe style. Next on my list is a 1986-87 Yamaha FZ 600. That'll be this winter. Followed by a 1965 Vespa 150. The show is very Philly...I would know...born and bred here. Love all the cursing...dropping the F bomb here is common. I do know Erin....the shop girl they just hired. Cracks me up that they have to use subtitles when she talks!!! Her Fishtown, Kensington accent is crazzzzzy heavy!! This is a flag that I designed. Hangs from my row home. All of the bike and car shows on Discovery have that.."formula" thing happening. There has to be deadlines and shop turmoil. There's another show out of Detroit with two brothers that I like. Detroit has that working class edge like Philly does. Adds something in my opinion.

Was on Friday nights at 10pm edt.  Wasn't on last week.  I looked it up and apparently they only shot 4 episodes.  3 have been on.  On Discovery Channel.  Warlocks Rising was on at 9pm.
