Newbie from MINNEAPOLIS
« on: July 21, 2013, 08:56:28 AM »
If anyone knows anything about the 1976 Honda CB550K and wants to share.......I'm all ears.
If I had the foggiest clue what the hell I was doing I might not need the help of the SOHC experts.
Believe me, I am as "newbie" as one can get.
Not new to riding, but new to Japanese motorcycles and new to really investing in the hobby/lifestyle.
I want to learn how to identify and deal with my own motorcycle problems, as opposed to running to the professional mechanics.
I want to learn how to repair/modify/adjust/improve my bike, as opposed to simply accepting everything as it is like a clueless fool.

I have a '76 CB550K...........fire away.
(that rhymes)

Thanks,

Josh

Welcome.  Nice looking 500K, and good for you for wanting to get to know your classic bike and working on it yourself.  You'll be better off.  Many of today's motorcycle shops don't know how to work on classic bikes, especially those with carburetors.

I am from Shoreview, just up the road from you. I have built several CB750 bikes and continue to improve engines as well as chassis. If you need any help I would be happy to assist in anyway I can. Just picked up a Model 100 Dynojet with upgrades last year and I am having a blast tuning and trying different engine curves. If you are interested you can see a custom CB750 piston build I did here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GFwPXhYq6c&feature=c4-overview&list=UUb6QD1tunQtPEQ88tgd-axA. All the best and welcome to the forum.

Welcome! I live in MN as well and have a 78 550K in my bike stable. I bought it last year on Craigslist, removed the old Vetter fairing, put lower bars on, battery, rebuilt the front brake caliper. Basically got her running after it sat for a few years so I could ride it but it's in line for a rebuild after a couple other projects. Fun to work on them, good luck with yours. If I can offer any help I will.
