Cb350f hard to get into gear
« on: July 17, 2013, 04:07:45 PM »
So I just installed my new dyna s, 5ohm coils and 8.8mm plug wires and brand new plugs. I got ready to go out for a nice ride and I can't get it into gear. I roll back and forth goose the clutch with a bit of throttle and nothing finally - clunk. She goes into gear. I scream off and click all the way up to 4th. Come to a stop light and can't down shift.

Clutch fully engages and disengages.

Any thought. Really don't want to have to open the gearbox.

Doh just checked the oil level and its super high. Hopefully that's it - I'll toss in a clutch adjustment to.

Okay checked siphoned out the extra oil. Still is hard to get into first.

Any ideas or is this just a clutch adjustment. I haven't opened up the clutch.

This is almost always a clutch that is not releasing properly.

Start at the lever and work your way down into the basket setting everything up properly.

Okay I figured it might be. I'll go through all the linkage and set it per the shop manual.

Where did all the extra oil come from?

What kind of oil is in it?

No chance there's fuel in the oil?

Had to replace oil filter so I retopped off fast and wasn't fully paying attention.  it wasn't to full. More of right below the top mark.

No fuel in oil or oil in fuel.

Should oil be checked on the side stand or upright?

This is almost always a clutch that is not releasing properly.

Start at the lever and work your way down into the basket setting everything up properly.

So I went through everything as per the shop manual and it is doing the same thing just not as frequent.

I tried to adjust the barrel nut so that it would pull more when the clutch is disengaged.

So I think I found the issue.

The clutch cable is in need of replacement -- badly.

Some shots of the clutch and friction plates. Everything was measuring at .1026 +/- on the friction plates.

Did you need any specific Honda-tool to remove the clutch? I must have mixed up the parts or models for this, but I read somewhere that you needed that.

Probably when being drunk  :o

Nope I think thats the CB350 - you need that castleted socket.

This just unbolts and slides off after you past all the damn screws.
