New Bike! CB450
« on: July 21, 2013, 10:08:04 PM »
I'm not exactly an active member here, I get on read a bunch then leave without signing in, but anyways.

Well after selling my 350 four I missed it. I recently went to my dad's buddies house to help him move out and saw a 1970 cb450 sitting in his garage with 2010 plates on it. Asked and handed him 400 bucks later that day. Though there is one issue, he says it's the stator. From my readings people say its the rectifier and that the stators rarely go bad. It will start with a charged battery but will die soon after due to a dead battery supposedly. Now I haven't gotten the title yet, that's tomorrow. I have to pick up a battery too so it's still to be determined if that really is the problem. Let's say that is the problem for now. I only know of one place to get either of those parts that I feel I can trust. The rectifier is $120 and the stator $170. That sure is a chunk of change for a hope guided purchase. I could buy the rectifier and the stator be bad and the old rectifier actually be good or visa versa. I would like some other input and opinions on this please and thank you. Other than that, new tires and it appears to pass my states safety inspection. It's also in much better shape than my  72 350f was when i sold it.

Congrats.  I would install a new battery and check all connections before buying other parts. I had a similar issue on a 550 that I bought and it turned out the rectifier came unplugged.  Easy fix.

Did you know the CB 450 is the most impressive bike ever built?

cb 450 have a older 2 fase generator vith permanent magenet..cb 500 t have a newer type vith elektronic regulator..and i think 3 fase..
it have nothing kommon vith the sohc types..
thek the stator windings for short"s and if it are ok..the best fix is a elektronik/diode box from a suzuki gn 250..or kawasaki with permament magenet load sistem..2 or 3 fase...if the orginal honda not work

Well after getting the bike and not having any time to tinker i managed to clean a few components and get all the dirt and cobwebs off the thing. It looks great minus a small amount of pitting on the chrome and the tank paint is cracked
I did get a battery and checked over things with my multi meter before puttibg the key in. I have a short somewhere or a bad component. Both sides of the battery ground out and i have found the culprit wire but i need to trace it throigh the harness and i haven't had the time to sit down and dismantle the thing. Theres miles of electrical tape everywhere...

Strynboen...good for you. I give you credit for trying and learning...you speak a lot better English than I can speak German. The little German I know is from a 1960's TV show here called Combat and is pretty much "halt" and "americanos".  :) Keep it up man...

How are you at Danish though Johnie?  :P
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.
