Kicker oil seal keeps popping out - CB350 twin
« on: August 11, 2014, 01:40:27 PM »
Weirdest thing: the Kicker oil seal on the CB350 keeps popping out after I ride around a bit. As far as I know there shouldn't be any pressure there, since the bottom end is open to atmosphere via the cam chain tunnel & the vent at the top. I've got a new seal to replace the old one with - just wondering if anybody had a clue as to why it's getting pushed out in the first place.

Has an insect built a nest inside the vent tube, blocking it?
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

that is a possibility.   I had the same problem with a 350 twin, used Gasgacinch around the perimeter and seated the seal deeper than flush with the case.  No problem since, bike was sold and then resold and driven from Philly to NY....Larry

My 450 has done that. If it becomes a problem I was told you can tap on the opening and close it up a bit, or use an adhesive or both.

Just to follow up here:

I cleaned it up really well and installed the new seal. Rode around for about 5 minutes and it was good. Another 5 minutes and it had popped out again! I can remove the oil dipstick and blow into the vent tube and it passes air, so I know that's not clogged.

Well, after talking with some guys at the shop I removed the seal, cleaned out the orifice really well, lightly smeared some Hondabond onto the seal and pushed it back in. Let it sit to cure and rode it a couple of days later. So far, so good - the seal is staying in place after a good half-hour of riding.
If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.
