weak spark on 1982 GS550L

I picked up a GS550 for $200 that wouldn't crank (wiring issue, jumo the relay and it cranks) but it won't fire up as it has a REAL WEAK spark to it.  I am gonna pop in new plugs this weekend and see if that helps out any and if not what would be my next step?  it is a CDI ignition so no points or condensor to look at replacing.

 How's your battery? If it's good, maybe test the coils. A low battery can have just enough juice in it to turn the engine, but not enough to power up the ignition coils during crank. Take a real good look at the coils...Test them. Have a manual or some resource telling you what the proper readings are. Make sure they are not cracked.

the coils ground to the frame. make sure the mounting bolts are clean.
I've never found a CDI to go weak, either good or bad. i'd suspect an issue with the secondary side. plugs, wires caps or maybe coils.
